Job overview

Harrop Fold – Moving Onwards and Upwards

We are beginning a new era at Harrop Fold!

Having been one of the most talked about schools in the country, we are returning to what we do best:

• being an excellent, local school serving one of the most disadvantaged communities in the country;

• putting teaching and learning first;

• focusing on our students and how we can best prepare them for successful, happy adult lives; and

• developing their full potential with a focus on delivering education with character.

We are not hiding the fact that we currently face a number of educational challenges, but rather than face these alone, we have the support of United Learning and its cluster of schools in the North West working alongside us.

We also have the common-sense ambition needed to address our current challenges head on.

We already have a cadre of excellent, committed, loyal and hard-working staff and we have opportunities for more to join us. We are looking for teachers who value working in a school where you can make a genuine difference on a daily basis. Who have the ideas, energy and expertise to inspire young people of all abilities and who want to work as part of a team where everyone’s input is appreciated and we responsibility is shared for future success.

Through United Learning we have access to excellent CPD for staff, joint-working across schools and a series of initiatives and opportunities that no standalone school could ever provide on its own.

So, if you are ambitious for the children you teach and want to work in a school where what you think and do is welcomed and appreciated, please get in touch.

Please apply by completing the downloadable application form from the School’s web-site https://www.harropfold.com  and return by e-mail with any additional information which should be on A4 no longer than 2 sides (in 11 font) to:  bev.duffy@salford.gov.uk

Closing date for applications: 24th September 2019 Mid Day : 12.00pm

Background

Harrop Fold School is an 11-16 school which is one of 14 high schools and academies in the Salford Local Authority. Our pupils are mainly drawn from the local area and the full ability range. Owing to the substantial upsurge in pupil numbers, the school is expected to be full to capacity along with many other local secondary schools.

Harrop Fold runs a calendared programme of directed time events including Senior Leadership Meetings, Head of Faculty Meetings, regular curriculum meetings and developmental opportunities both on a personal professional and school led basis.

Location

Harrop Fold School is situated in Worsley, Salford, between Walkden and Little Hulton bordering Bolton, Bury and Trafford. The school is well served with easy access to the A6 and A180 (East Lancashire Road) as well as the motorway networks of M6, M56, M61, M62. Within walking distance is a railway station which serves the Wigan, Southport, Bolton and Manchester lines and the new V1 & V2 guided bus-way from Atherton & Tyldesley to Manchester City Centre.

There are a range of local shops and a supermarket close by, and we are within a few miles is Salford Quays with its wide diverse selection of shops, restaurants, cinemas, clubs and amenities.

Our classrooms are well equipped science and design technology labs, three Apple Mac suites, music practice rooms, a recording studio and two drama studios. The school’s sports hall includes cricket nets, five-a-side pitches, trampolines and basketball facilities.

Values and vision

Our core purpose as a school is to raise achievement for all, delivering a rigorous academic education alongside effective personal, social and moral development. We work hard to ensure Harrop Fold School is a happy place to learn and work and provide equal opportunities for all.

No matter their starting points, we stretch and challenge students to reach their potential through a broad, balanced curriculum and wider enrichment opportunities. We provide clear objectives for learning whilst offering the chance to work independently and with others. We celebrate achievements and provide individualised praise through the Class Charts reward system, sharing this with both pupils and parents/carers.

We value our relationships with parents and carers. We know it is essential to communicate effectively with them and work collaboratively to secure the best possible outcomes for students.

Partnerships are also important to us and we aim to work closely with both the local and wider community. As a school we value our international links and constantly seek ways in which pupil experiences can be broadened to prepare them for life beyond school and the world of work, including through our Student Futures programme.
