If I am successful in gaining an interview, how will this occur during the current COVID-19 pandemic?

Due to the current situation we plan to interview remotely using a video call. We would ensure that candidates who were successful in gaining an interview were supported with the technology so that this process was seamless.

Our advice would be that those who were successful in gaining an interview should prepare as they would for an in-person interview, but be prepared to talk in even more depth about your teaching practice. We will talk about the classes you currently teach, how you go about planning your lessons, and what we would see if we were to see you teach. We will talk to you about curriculum planning, and the position of your subject within the wider curriculum.

We will ask you to teach us live. Prepare as you would for a normal lesson – feel free to send through notes if that helps. We want to see how you plan a concept, explain an idea and give the students instructions.

This will feel odd, but it gives us a really good idea of what you’d be like interacting with our students, how you reflect on your practice and your approach to feedback.

We will leave plenty of opportunity for questions at the end of the interview, and we will spend lots of time talking and unpicking your answers. Please come prepared to share anything you’d like that we didn’t cover, or any questions you have about it. We really appreciate your adaptability in these unprecedented times.

Values and Vision

The Academy has high ambitions for, and expectations of, all its students and encourages them to ‘be the best version of themselves’ in everything they do. Yewlands Academy expect all students to be 5* Learners and demonstrate 5* Behaviours for Learning:

  • Preparation – students arrive on time with their equipment and are ready to learn
  • Engagement – students participate in their learning positively and try their best
  • Resilience – students accept that learning is challenging, don’t give up and are prepared to bounce back from their mistakes

The Academy is a caring, nurturing and focused community with an atmosphere of calm and purposeful learning. This ensures that all students feel safe, happy and secure, achieve excellent academic progress and can be the best that they can be.  I believe that mutual respect and integrity are both vital to forming positive relationships and ultimately ensuring that all students have the life chances that they deserve.
