Teacher of Maths

Outwood Academy FreestonWakefield

Outwood Academy Freeston is looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our maths department from September 2021. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people. Our single goal is ‘Students First’ and you will be joining a strong team of professionals working to this sole aim. We are right at the forefront of maths education, both in terms of ensuring students are taught maths for deep understanding, and in enabling every student to leave school with a maths qualification that opens doors for them. We have a curriculum that allows for this and the training and support for teachers to feel confident to facilitate this for all.

The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which gives staff opportunities to work with a range of maths teachers of different experiences, as well as a team of Maths Directors and our Executive Director who leads the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub. This, as well as her work with the DfE, means OGAT maths is helping to inform and mould the landscape of maths, regionally and nationally.

We have a great training package for NQTs and teachers new to the academy including: Teaching for Mastery; Open Classroom events; Maths Matters; TSST; Reasoning at KS3; weekly professional development time and further programmes free through the Outwood Institute of Education. We invest in you so you invest in our students.

We welcome applications for our Academy from teachers of any experience, who love maths and have a passion to develop this in others. You could progress quickly across our Family of Schools if that was what you were looking for, through maths leadership or through our Deeps structure; but, if you just want to be the best maths teacher you can be, then we are also the school for you!

Please note applicants should be eligible for the below incentives.

For teachers of maths, there is a retention incentive. Full details can be found in the link below but in summary:

- any teacher starting teacher training in 2018 – 19 / 2019 – 2020 will be eligible;

- payments will be made in their 3rd and 5th year of teaching; and

- They will receive a retention payment £5000 with some areas eligible for £7,500 (see attached overview as to which of our academies will qualify for the higher payment).

For teachers of maths and physics, there are retention payments for those in the first 5 years of their career (£2k)

If you require any further information about this post please contact Abigail Sayers, Director of Maths at

All of our Academies are currently open and working within the Government’s guidelines on social distancing and

keeping our staff and students safe. However, we are still busily planning ahead for the forthcoming academic year and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us. In place of academy based interviews, we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are still available via skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage.

Understandably, visits to the school are not advised at present, however we are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academies or the position please email Melanie Lee, Regional Director Maths on and she will be happy to assist.

Closing date: Midday on Monday, 12 April 2021.

Interview date: Wednesday, 14 April 2021.

We reserve the right to close advertisements early. Advertisements will therefore close at 12 noon, either on the advertised closing date, or the day the decision has been taken to close the advertisement early.
