Job overview

Harris Academy Riverside is seeking to appoint a qualified Teacher of Spanish to instill a passion for linguistics in its students.

Your opportunity

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future of the subject, the department and the academy as a whole and therefore to progress rapidly both as an educator and a leader.

Are you passionate about MFL and would like to teach Spanish to a vibrant, engaged school community? Join us in the promotion of an imaginative, extensive and immersive experience including relevant practical experience, visits, and trips.

The post will involve ensuring the quality of delivery, assessment, achievement, and progress in Spanish at Harris Academy Riverside. As part of Harris, we can offer you the opportunity to advance your career within a supportive academy environment. You will be part of a Federation established in developing practitioners and nurturing excellent future leaders, with unrivalled opportunities for progression; whatever your aspirations as a teacher, middle or senior leader, our Teaching School Alliance provides a range of bespoke courses and qualifications, including our Aspiring Leaders NPQML and NPQSL programmes to help you achieve your ambitions more quickly.

In line with the Government’s announcement, our academy is closed until further notice. However, during this period it is our intention to continue with critical recruitment for key positions starting in September 2020. In place of academy interviews, alternative options will be offered so that no one is at a disadvantage, and applicants should expect telephone or virtual interviews, with the possibility of onsite academy interviews only in special cases. We want to reassure applicants that effective measures have been implemented to ensure their health and wellbeing whilst on academy premises.

Thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time.

What we are looking for:

We look for talented individuals who want to be a part of transforming education in London, and helping create exceptional places of learning. Applications are welcome from experienced teachers, NQTs, RQTs or beginning teachers who are committed and passionate about Spanish and its impact on the overall development of students and who share our belief that every student can and should achieve. Applicants should have an engaging love of subject and an unwavering belief in the ability of pupils to exceed expectations, and must hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.

Candidates should have a drive to understand the thinking processes and drivers necessary for success in Spanish in addition to the intellectual and psychological barriers to the learning of Spanish and be prepared to research and strategise to ensure that students make the best possible progress. As an educator, the successful candidate should recognise the need for students to develop outstanding habits of behaviour and learning and therefore be prepared to think outside of his or her discipline in order to achieve these aims.

About Harris Academy Riverside

Harris Academy Riverside is a brand new secondary school opening in September 2017. The Academy will offer education with drive and ambition, and a culture where all students are treated as individuals.

Our first 120 children will be uniquely advantaged as the only year group in the school, but they will enjoy many activities and events which will enable them to collaborate with students from other Harris academies. We will work hard to ensure that transition from primary school is as smooth as possible. When they join, they will then benefit from the focused attention of our teachers.

We will offer a wide and varied curriculum, with teaching that inspires the best in students, whether they need support or challenge. We want our students to be well-educated, and we also want them to be well-rounded individuals, ready to take on the world once they leave the academy. We will cater to a wide range of interests with our extra-curricular clubs and will encourage every student to find at least one activity they can excel in.

A new building at the heart of a regenerated Purfleet

We will have a brand new building in time for September 2019. This will be built as part of the regeneration of Purfleet town centre. As a purpose-built space, it will be modern and welcoming with specialist facilities in science, sport and the arts.

Working for Harris Federation

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit charity. Led and run by teachers, we established our first school over 25 years ago.

There are now more than 40 happy and highly successful primary and secondary academies in our federation. All of these are in and around London. With each school that has joined us, the expectations we set ourselves have increased.

Every Harris academy so far inspected by Ofsted is rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, with three quarters of our inspected secondary academies judged ‘outstanding’. Our primary schools are newer, but almost half are ‘outstanding’, with the rest ‘good’.
