Job overview

With a possible 2nd in Department position for the right candidate

We require an outstanding teacher of Spanish and French to join the Modern Foreign Languages department at Wyvern St Edmund’s Learning Campus from January 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will join a forward-looking and supportive team.

We are looking for someone with energy who is able to work as part of a team, so that we build on our successes in the subject over the past few years.

Modern Foreign Languages at Wyvern St Edmund’s Learning Campus

The department is experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated and consists of 4 full time members and 2 part time members of staff. We all work closely together, sharing ideas, resources and expertise in a supportive and co-operative manner. We make use of external consultants to train and support us with innovative classroom practice.

Our high expectations of students and ourselves ensure that we are always striving for the very best outcomes for students. Last year, in the first year of the new GCSE, 100% of students passed the French exam with an average grade of 5 and in Spanish the average grade was a 4+.

The Key Stage 3 curriculum is challenging, enriching and enjoyable and covers all aspects of the National Curriculum. Currently in Year 7, students choose to study either Spanish or French, which they continue learning in Year 8 and beyond, with opportunities to study an additional foreign language after school. At Key Stage 4, students choosing to study languages follow the AQA examination courses in French and Spanish. In every year group, we focus on developing a love of language in students, by making it fun and accessible to all. We aim to deepen students’ understanding of the importance of learning other languages and inform them about alternative cultures. The department also offers exciting enrichment opportunities for students including annual language ‘immersion’ trips to both Spain and France in both KS3 and KS4.

The department shares a strong vision of Modern Foreign Languages teaching, which is complimented by enthusiasm and commitment in a stable and successful team.

The aims of the Modern Foreign Languages Department are:

To foster the enjoyment of language learning

To encourage pride in successful linguistic achievement

To develop each pupil to his or her maximum potential

To encourage good practice in the effective acquisition of language skills

To promote understanding and appreciation of the cultures and ways of life of other countries

Wyvern College and St. Edmund's Girls School have co-located to create one learning campus. Facilities and teachers are shared to create a large, mixed, setting of approximately 1300 students. Both schools are situated next door to each other in an outstanding location on the outskirts of Salisbury, with a beautiful backdrop of the Laverstock Downs and acres of playing fields. Both schools currently have a 'Good' OFSTED rating. Our school values, Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, were chosen by the students and are reflected in every aspect of school life.

We have high expectations of student attainment and similarly we expect much from our staff. We are aiming for outstanding provision in all areas and this appointment is a key factor in ensuring that we achieve that ambition.

Our students are delightful; they embrace learning opportunities and respond well to challenge. They appreciate the very positive working relationships they have with their teachers and other staff who support them. In turn, our staff ?go the extra mile? to help girls achieve beyond expectations. Our reputation in the local community is soundly based upon the value we add to our students from the point at which they join us until their departure for sixth forms and colleges in the local area.
