Job Description
Teacher of Modern Studies with Social Subjects 0.6FTE is currently Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday during timetable 2019/2020.  This post can be offered as full time.

An attractive relocation package may be available to the successful candidate if they are required to relocate their primary residence to fulfil this role. Relocation must be within a reasonable commuting distance to the workplace. Currently, the scheme offers a max of £8,000 (inc VAT) paid on a reimbursement basis.

 

Job Purpose:
To deliver quality education to assigned pupils and contribute to the professional, corporate life of the school in relation to pupils, staff and appropriate external bodies within the agreements of the SNCT

 

Requirements
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Appropriate teaching qualification
Full GTC (Scotland) registration in the appropriate subject/sector, or be eligible for such registration
PVG scheme membership – Working with Children

Responsibilities
The post holder will be expected to:

  • Deliver a quality education to pupils in the context of the school’s agreed targets and School Improvement
  • Work in a collegiate manner in partnership with parents/carers, pupils and colleagues across the education community to promote positive outcomes for young people and to raise levels of attainment and wider achievement for a diverse range of pupils.
  • Support the health, safety and wellbeing of young people in school.
  • Meet and maintain the professional standards which are set by the GTCS Code of Conduct and participate in the Scheme of Professional Update in accordance with the requirements set by GTCS.

 

The post holder is expected to demonstrate:

  • Ability to teach the full curriculum in the relevant subject or sector, and to develop the curriculum
  • Ability to manage and organise classes through planning and preparing for teaching and learning
  • Ability to assess, record and report on the work of pupils’ progress to inform a range of teaching and learning approaches
  • Ability to prepare pupils for examinations and qualifications and where required, assist with their administration
  • Ability to contribute towards good order and the wider needs of the school
  • Ability to contribute to the school and council planning and improvement processes
  • Ability to maintain and develop knowledge and skills and contribute to the professional development of colleagues including probationary and student teachers

 Cults Academy is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary in Aberdeen. There are approximately 1050 students on the school. There are five houses at Cults, named after local areas: Cairn, Devenick, Friarsfield, Ronan and Murtle. A notable former alumni is captain of the Scotland rugby union team Jason White. Cults Academy was built in 2009 as part of Aberdeen City Council’s 3Rs Scheme. There are extensive music and PE facilities onsite including a pool, all-weather pitch and traditional grass pitches.

The academy’s aim is to is for all pupils to feel valued in an environment that gives them the opportunity to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society. Moral education is also a function of the whole school and is transmitted through the relationships which exist in the school community/

The extra-curricular programme offers opportunities for enjoyment and personal development. The programme includes activities of a sporting, aesthetic and cultural nature. In addition, there are a number of annual and occasional events. These include speaking competitions and special charity activities, organised by the school’s successful charity group ‘C.A.T.Ch’. Music and Drama are also very important at Cults Academy and students are treated to events of the highest standard.

“Overall, the school had made good progress and in some cases very good towards meeting the main points for action identified in the Inspection Report. The Senior Management Team together with the school staff had continued to demonstrate a high level of commitment to improving the school.”
