Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Music to join our thriving and well-resourced department. The successful candidate will teach at KS3, KS4 and KS5, and will be expected to contribute to the exciting co-curricular musical provision.

Forest has a long-standing reputation for its outstanding Music Department. The co-curricular programme, and in particular Music, is at the core of the educational provision.  There is an incredible array of musical ensembles and choirs and Forest is a school where music is not simply an additional activity but a subject where those pupils who wish to pursue it to the highest level regularly achieve that goal. Many pupils attend conservatoire Junior Departments and are members of national organisations such as the National Children’s Choir and the National Youth Orchestra. Pupils regularly go on to study Music at university and conservatoire, often winning scholarships.

This is a dynamic and busy department, with an excellent team of 4 classroom teachers, a full-time Music School Administrator and 36 Visiting Staff. Our ethos is that all our pupils should be considered as musicians and should be inspired to love music.  There is a full programme of concerts and recitals in School. In addition, being situated a short distance from central London, the department makes good use of opportunities to take pupils to concerts and recitals as well as providing the opportunity to give regular performances at venues such as St. James’ Piccadilly, St. John’s Smith Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral and Chelmsford Cathedral. There are biennial music tours and an annual musical production.  The School is a pioneer in the use of information technology in the classroom and the Music Department is an open-minded environment keen to engage with using educational technology in a positive way.
