New opportunities at Fowey River Academy

Teacher of Music

MPS/UPS

Start date: September 2018

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” – Billy Joel

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational music teacher to join our Creative Industries team. We seek a colleague with passion and flair; someone who can put music at the heart of what we do. We want someone who understands how music education can be a total workout for the brain and how it can feed the imagination and the soul.

We are committed to Music being part of our core curriculum offer, and all students study music at KS3. Healthy numbers opt to take music GCSE at KS4, and we want this to grow. We are poised to take things to the next level…

We want music to be everywhere: part of our enrichment programme, part of our adventure learning weeks, part of our assemblies and celebration events, part of our outreach work with primaries and the local community. We want to explore music technology courses and develop vocational pathways for our students via our recording studio and AV technician. We want our music education to be an area of excellence and need a music teacher who is excited about taking on a diverse role across our academy.

We have superb facilities including an extensive main classroom, four practice rooms, a band room and two recording studios. Our equipment list is comprehensive. We have six peripatetic teachers who offer electric and acoustic guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, keyboard, piano, drumming, woodwind, brass, strings and voice lessons. Students value this extra provision and these lessons are well supported. Regarding our extra-curricular offer, we currently run very successful clubs like samba band, stage band and choir and we have participated in the Truro City of Lights, Christmas celebrations in Fowey and Songfest 2018, as well as other performances in the local community and the academy.

Please note: we also have a vacancy for a new Head of Faculty: Creative Industries and a music specialist is encouraged to apply.

For further information and to apply please download the relevant application pack(s) from our website: www.foweyriveracademy.org.uk or our Trust’s website: ALAT (Adventure learning Academies Trust) www.alat.org.uk. Please note CVs will not be accepted.

If you require an alternative format, you can contact Ali Honey ali@neopeople.net

Closing date: 9.00am on Monday 23rd April 2018 Please note we reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than advertised should the position be filled or we receive a high volume of applications
