Ahead of September 2019 we will also be moving into our brand new, state of the art building.

Hackney New Primary School is an outstanding and exciting brand new school striving to create something unique and special in the heart of London. We are distinguished by our commitment to music as a core subject alongside English and maths and our mission to keep the development of the whole child at the centre of our work. Our school community share family-style meals together and work closely with local organisations to ensure the very best relationships with our community.

Children begin their musical journey in Reception with a daily Kodaly and Dalcroze based music class, choosing a string instrument at the end of this year.  The school music programme is inclusive with all children learning to play violin, viola, cello or double bass from year 1, with children in Key Stage 1 receiving a whole class ensemble session, 2 instrument specific lessons and 2 musicianship lessons per week.  In Key stage 2 children continue their musical studies in year group orchestras, continuing with instrument specific lessons and musicianship.  At Key stage 2 children participate in improvisation, composition and chamber music projects.  The music curriculum in enriched with visits to hear live musicians and to perform with Hackney Music Service and Music for Youth and by visits to hear world class performances at The Barbican and Wigmore Hall.

We are now seeking an additional, outstanding NQT teacher of Music to complement our existing music teaching team for classes between Reception and Year 4.
