About the role: Strood Academy has an exciting opportunity to appoint a Teacher of Music for September 2019. We are looking for a highly ambitious team-player to join our dynamic Performing Arts team. We have a superb Performing Arts team who work closely together and are driven to increase the profile and exposure of music and the arts within the academy. We offer a range of extra-curricular music clubs such as Guitar Club and our choir, “Vocalize”. We are looking to expand our music department and seeking the ideal candidate to take our music department to the next level!
We have a range of talented, passionate and hard-working performers here at Strood Academy who thrive on performing. The music department works closely with Dynamics Music Association and we currently have external professional peripatetic tutors who come in on a weekly basis to deliver private tuition in piano, drums, guitar, vocals, clarinet and flute. The music department is well equipped with a range of instruments, four private practice rooms and an AV room.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work across Key Stage 3 and 4 to inspire students and contribute fully to an exciting and varied curriculum, as well as providing students with the opportunity to leave Key Stage 4 with a qualification in NCFE Music Technology. Willingness to work collaboratively and to support a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as educational visits, after-school clubs and our winter and summer productions, is essential. Expertise in piano would be an advantage; however, we welcome applicants from all musical backgrounds who will bring other expertise and skills to the team.

Working for Strood Academy: Since opening in 2009, our academy has transformed the educational opportunities and outcomes for girls and boys in Strood. The improvement in academic performance has been driven by a talented and committed workforce, the hard work of our students, and support from parents and our community. Our new buildings in Carnation Road were designed in partnership with Nicholas Hare and built by BAM as our main contractor at a cost of £26m. Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st January 2019, our Trust is comprised of 23 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 11 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff.
