The College

Abbey Gate College is the longest-running coeducational independent school in the Chester area, catering for circa 490 pupils aged 4-18 years. Set in the idyllic rural villages of Saighton and Aldford on the outskirts of Chester.

The Post

We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring and committed teacher of Music, to join our thriving department to start in September 2021 on a 12 months fixed term basis.  The successful candidate will teach across the year groups in the Senior School. The role would be to teach 7 lessons across the whole range of year groups.

The department includes the Head of Music and this part time position, together they will work to enthuse pupils as well as encourage them to become independent learners. The candidate will build on the outstanding reputation of the department in delivering a wide range of opportunities for all pupils to be involved in the musical life of the College and will help to nurture the talents of top musicians in delivering performances of the highest quality. 

The teaching facilities here assist these aims – each classroom has a 70 inch Clever touch screen; pupils have access to tablet sets across the College; and each member of staff is loaned a Windows Tablet (with integral keyboard). We also have an imac suite specifically for the music department and an ICT room along with other smaller rehearsal spaces and teaching rooms.


Curriculum

Lessons at Abbey Gate College are 55 minutes long and there are six per day. In Year 9 Music is taken as an option and there are two 55 minute lessons per week. At Key Stage 4 Music is taken as an option and there are three 55 minute lessons per week. 

In the Sixth Form, students study at AS Level and have five 55 minute lessons a week and at A2 pupils have six 55 minute lessons per week.

 Caring, supportive and willing to adapt their teaching to suit the needs of the pupils 

 Act as a good role model to staff and pupils 

 Proficient with the use of ICT in the classroom (and remote teaching if required)

Ideally with experience on apple technology and in using Logic Pro X

 Confident in using new technologies to share and promote good practice. 

 Experienced in piano accompanying with good piano playing ability

 Experience of choral or orchestral conducting with a good understanding of rehearsing to perform at a high level

 Willingness to be involved with and assist in furthering the department’s existing outstanding extra-curricular program and to lead extra-curricular sessions

 Knowledge of audio and video recording and editing desirable but not essential

 Show good planning skills

 Well-organised

 Calm under pressure


Salary

The salary for this position will depend upon the qualifications and relevant experience of the successful candidate.
