TEACHER OF MUSIC

MPS (£32,407 - £43,193) UPS (£ 44,687 - £48,055)

Part-time option available

Required for January 2024 or earlier if available.

We are looking for a musician with energy and enthusiasm to join a collegiate and ambitious department. All our classroom teachers are active performing musicians and composers, with a diverse range of musical interests. Academic music provision throughout the school is strong, reflected in strong and growing uptake and results, particularly at sixth form level, with 10 students in the current Y13, and 18 in the current Y12. At KS3, we benefit from class sizes of 16 in years 7 and 8, and 9, which allows bespoke teaching, tailored to student needs.

We have an excellent team of visiting teachers across all instruments and voice, and a range of junior and senior instrumental and vocal ensembles rehearse each week, including junior, senior and chamber choirs, junior and senior jazz bands, ukulele and guitar ensembles, and numerous smaller groups, several of which are student led.

Recent extra-curricular highlights include the Jazz Band’s performance at the Orchard Theatre (June 2022), Fauré’s Requiem (November 2022), the Candlelit Carol Service (December 2022), Beauty and the Beast Production (March 2023), alongside an array of formal and informal concerts. Plans are in place for a music tour during the Academic Year 2023/24. Take a look at our linktr.ee/csgsmusic to get a flavour of our musical output.

Our facilities include one very large classroom, where rehearsals can take place, a further smaller classroom, a music technology classroom and recording studio, which have recently been upgraded with new iMacs, running Logic Pro, as well as four further rooms for practice/instrumental and office space.

The precise balance of the teaching and extra-curricular commitment will be tailored to the strengths and experience of the successful candidate. The teaching load will be initially be likely to focus on KS3, but with KS4/5 music teaching available for those with suitable experience. There is also the opportunity to contribute to the teaching of A-level music technology for suitably experienced candidates, but this is not essential.

In return, we can offer you:

•         Enthusiastic, able and well-behaved students

•         Modern teaching environment

•         A Level teaching

•         Competitive pay and pension scheme

•         Tailored induction programme

About Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School

The school opened in the Autumn Term of 1931 and has been at three different sites since then. 'CSGS' has been at the current site for over fifty years and has undergone considerable building development, which includes a new Art & Technology block.

Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School aims to educate and prepare for life able pupils from all backgrounds. This mission is dynamically carried forward within a caring, happy and supportive community. The education that ‘CSGS’ offers develops its pupils intellectually, emotionally and physically. The ingrained idea of excellence in school life allows pupils to reach the highest academic, sporting, cultural and aesthetic standards. The special quality of learning in the classroom is equally matched by the richness of teaching that pupils experience.

Whilst healthy competition is central to the ‘CSGS’ ethos, there are also many opportunities for pupils to enter into the wider life of the school. Service to the school and community is enthusiastically performed and high levels of leadership and responsibility are actively taken on by pupils at all levels. There is a supreme belief that building ‘CSGS’s’ tradition of excellence comes not from dwelling on yesterday’s successes but performing tomorrow’s tasks.

The continued success of ‘CSGS’ is matched by an ongoing focus on site development and improvement. Upon extremely attractive grounds, almost unique in the south east of England, a heavy investment programme in new facilities is unfolding. Aside from a range of well-resourced specialist teaching areas, the school continues to add new buildings.

Significant enhancements to the Sixth Form Centre have also provided our Year 12 and 13 students with a dedicated study facility closely attached to the school’s Learning Resource Centre.
