The role of Teacher of Music offers the opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative department focused on delivering excellent lessons for all students we serve helping them to achieve excellent results and progress.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach Music from KS3 through to KS5. We offer Edexcel GCSE Music and BTEC Music Performance at Level 3. We are also proud of our extra-curricular work and, along with the Drama department, produce a full scale musical each year. The department is keen to take up performance opportunities for our students in the local area and as such have performed as part of the Eton Carol Service in St. George’s Chapel, and at Slough Town Football Stadium over recent years. The successful candidate should be willing to support the extra-curricular work we do within music.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly motivated learning community of 1000 students (including 214 in the Sixth Form) where we have a deep rooted belief in professional development, in exchange for hard work and a commitment to the school, we will ensure that you are prepared for the next stage in your teaching career.

Recently designated “Outstanding” (Section 48) in November 2018 St Joseph’s is a school where “pupils make outstanding progress“. St Joseph’s is well known for being a great school to teach in, where the students are highly aspirational. We were judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in January 2016 and in a further short inspection in December 2018 where consequently we’re expecting a further full inspection to assess our suitability for ‘Outstanding’. In 2016 the school was described as having a ‘deep seated conviction and moral purpose that all pupils have the right to an excellent education which drives a very positive culture in the school’. Our recent progress 8 score from 2016 to 2019 has been +0.6 +0.6 and +0.43 which places us regularly in the top 10% of schools nationally. We believe in professional development; In exchange for hard work and a commitment to the school, we will ensure that you are prepared for the next stage in your teaching career.

About St Joseph's Catholic High School

St. Joseph’s Catholic High School prides itself on being a Catholic, listening and learning school. The students are at the heart of everything we do, and we challenge our staff to: Love the children and let them know that they are loved.

This love is present in the care, support, challenge and curriculum we deliver where we ASK (Attributes, Skills and Knowledge) our children to develop as learners and as people to transform the world by ‘Unlocking Belief in All.’

To support our staff in this mission we:

  • We work hard for the children and we care for each other like a family.
  • We have a behaviour system that lets teachers teach.
  • We treat teachers like surgeons with weekly CPD and training.
  • We have small class sizes and give teachers time to prepare.
  • All teachers are included in our reading and electives programme.

We are inspired by St Joseph, patron Saint of workers and a member of the Holy Family. We aim to create a place where children aren’t just loved but that they know they are loved. It is this ethos that enables our children to become academically successful. Here, all children are developed according to their ability and we make every effort to ensure that we reach out to all regardless of background.

You’ll experience a happy atmosphere at St. Joseph’s in which the dignity and worth of each pupil and member of staff is recognised, developed and safeguarded. Our school is recognised for its atmosphere of welcome where all feel at home in a sense of safety and security. Staff are willing to be present with the pupils in friendship and to go that one step further, where this is necessary, to meet the needs of young people.
