The British School of Guangzhou

The British School of Guangzhou is at the forefront of international education in China. Established in 2005 for students aged 1-18, our school is recognised for academic excellence leading to outstanding A-Level results and entry to top universities worldwide. The Southlake Campus, a 20-minute drive north of the city centre, enjoys picturesque views over Nanhu Lake and a golf course. All classrooms are attractively furnished, air-conditioned and equipped with WiFi and an interactive whiteboard. The school has impressive resources and facilities including music rooms, a well-equipped fitness room, guided reading rooms, IT zones, a dance studio, libraries, a theatre and several coffee shops for staff and parents. About the role

As a teacher of Physical Education your main role will be teaching from Key stage 1 to Key stage 5 as part of a large and successful PE department. Most students have 2 periods of PE per week covering a wide range of sports. We compete on many levels against schools locally, nationally and internationally. You will also support and contribute towards a broad extra-curricular programme, including House activities. You will also help to coach, manage and coordinate groups or teams in a range of physical activities and fixtures during the week and at weekends. You will be a good communicator who gets on well with colleagues, students and parents. To deliver our high standard of educational excellence, we are looking for teachers who are well organised, have a good sense of humour and a willingness to participate fully in all aspects of school life, within and beyond the classroom. The successful candidate must be willing to take a full and active role in developing the extra curricular provision of Physical Education.

We are specifically looking for someone who will:

Use teaching methods that will engage students through careful planning, effective questioning, good use of resources and a style of delivery that promotes a love of learning.
Set high expectations for students’ behaviour.
Identify learning objectives, content and lesson structures appropriate to the educational needs of our students.
Set appropriate, realistic yet challenging expectations for students’ learning, building on prior knowledge.
Prepare and present informative reports to parents in a professional manner.
Take responsibility for their own PD and keep up to date with research and developments.
Interact on a professional level with colleagues and seek to establish and maintain productive relationships.
Support an area of curriculum development and contribute to continuous school improvement planning.
Understand the importance of being a role model for learning within the school and throughout the wider community in line with our core values.
Develop the extra-curricular provision for all students.
Work after-school and weekends where required.
Travel to fixtures/tournaments within China and internationally.
