Required for September 2021 for a period of 12 months

As one of the leading independent schools in the country, a vibrant PE, sport and physical activity offer is central to our vision for a relevant, empowering and holistic 21st century education. We wish to appoint an inspirational and well-qualified specialist Teacher of Physical Education. The successful candidate will be expected to teach concepts via a range of different sports and activities. In addition to this, they will be expected to be competent and confident in teaching netball to a high level.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for a supportive yet challenging work environment. You will be part of a dynamic and experienced team of professional staff. If you are committed to growing professionally and want to make a difference to young people’s lives through sport, then this opportunity could be for you.

As PE teacher, you will support the delivery of the highest quality PE, sport and physical activity programmes to all pupils in College. You will teach PE, co-curricular sport and lead school teams from Year 7 to Year 13.

It is an incredibly exciting time to join CLC, we have recently undergone a significant extension of our World Class facilities and set ambitious visions to:

  • Deliver World leading PE curriculum that creates competent and confident learners through excellent teaching.
  • Ensure every girl is engaged in physical activity for at least one hour everyday within and beyond College.
  • Be the leading school for supporting and developing student-athletes.

We are on an exciting journey involving delivery of cutting edge, innovative and exciting programmes. We need someone with the enthusiasm, openness and ambition to help us on this journey.

We believe that developing physical literacy is a critical element of holistic education for the girls so we have refreshed our PE curriculum with a focus on physical literacy and life skills. Our provision is beyond a traditional competitive school sport offer and embraces a much wider range of physical activities within our programmes. This often involves different activities being offered, but also importantly involves teachers differentiating delivery style appropriately.

We have an excellent team delivering on our visions for PE, sport and physical activity. This role is a rare opportunity for a suitably ambitious person to work alongside, learn from and support an exceptional PE Department.

All teachers are expected to contribute to the rich co-curricular life of the College, but there are no residential duties with this role.

As one of the world’s leading schools, and with a strong pioneering heritage, our aim is to embody excellence, independence and empowerment in the education of young women. You will join a friendly and supportive community of committed professionals who believe that girls are at the heart of all we do. We are ambitious for their futures, collectively and individually, and have been so for over 165 years.

Applications are welcome from teachers who are at any stage of the teaching journey, whether newly qualified or significantly experienced.

"Girls enrolling in College are highly likely to see in the turn of the next century, living lives of unprecedented longevity. Their world will be full of promise, choice and possibility on a scale that has not been true for any generation of women that has preceded them.

“Leading this energetic, talented and caring community of staff and pupils is an extraordinary privilege. We have a unique and inspiring pioneering heritage which we cherish, and we have a very exciting future. We would love you to be a part of it.”

Eve Jardine-Young, Principal

College first opened its doors in February 1854 with the purpose of providing girls with a thorough academic education. We have remained committed to that pioneering goal, while adapting to a complex and changing world. Today we are one of the largest school communities of boarding and day girls in Europe, allowing us to provide a rich holistic curriculum. Approximately 850 pupils from 40 countries across the world benefit from the knowledge and expertise gained over the last 160 years of putting girls first.

Our motivated and able pupils genuinely want to learn, and consistently achieve results at the very highest level in GCSE, A Level, Pre-U and IB examinations. For the teachers who can nurture such achievement, we offer excellent resources, professional support and personal development. In addition, we have a dedicated team that manages evening and weekend boarding duties, so you can focus on what you do best: inspiring your classes.

You can also look forward to a wonderful working environment right at the heart of Cheltenham. Described as the cultural centre of the Cotswolds, this elegant and thriving town offers excellent transport links to the South West or Midlands, with the M5 in easy reach. London can be reached in two hours, and Cheltenham’s mainline rail station provides rapid and frequent connections with the rest of the UK.

We believe that there are few better places to live and work – and no better setting within which ambitious teachers can make a positive impact on their pupils’ lives.
