 MPS (Outer London)

“An OUTSTANDING school demonstrating strong practice in Behaviour,  Safety, Leadership and Management.”                                  Ofsted

We are seeking to appoint a suitably dynamic teacher of Photography who has a real passion for the subject and is capable of teaching across all Key Stages.  The post would equally suit a newly qualified or experienced teacher who has obtained a good degree in photography/Art or related discipline.  The ability or willingness to teach the photography at Key Stage 4 and 5 is essential.   The flexibility to teach Art or a technology based discipline is desirable but not essential.  For NQTs, three weeks’ work in July is offered as an induction to the school.  Applications for part-time are welcome.

The Art Department at Vyners is highly successful, both within the school and in a national context. The department was featured in leading edge directory 2018 with “established practise” due to its consistently high results. Our students are highly creative and capable of an exceptionally high standard of work.  Art and Photography are popular options at GCSE and A Level, and a good proportion of students opt to take these subjects.  The department has a proven track record of examination success at Key Stages 4 and 5, and in 2020, results were outstanding. In A Level Art, 57% of pupils achieved A*-A and 93% achieved A*-C.  In A level Photography, 50% of pupils achieved A*- A and 100% achieved A*-C. Art and Photography are both taught by highly qualified, specialist teachers, within four dedicated art rooms.  The department is well equipped with IT facilities, two printing presses, a darkroom for A level Photography plus a fixed frame studio set up with three adjustable pentagram lights.

Vyners is a very popular and oversubscribed mixed eight form entry, 11-18 comprehensive school, situated in a pleasant residential area in North West London, bordering Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.    We have a track record of real success at all Key Stages.  In 2019, 87% of students achieved grades 9-4 in both English and Maths at GCSE and we are consistently ranked in the top 10% of all schools nationally for progress measures and attainment.   At A-Level 33% of all grades were A* - A and 54% A* - B.   The school converted to academy status on 1 November 2011 and is part of the Vanguard Learning Trust which also includes one other secondary and one primary school.

We are well known for high academic standards, good behaviour, and our strong community spirit including a strong house system with students leading their peers.  “Pupils have a positive attitude towards their work and enjoy learning” (Ofsted 2019).  Many students are involved in extracurricular sport, music and drama, performing at a high level including prestigious public events and performing in our own school productions.

We offer you:

• A well established and well respected Continual Professional Development program.

• Creative opportunities and mentoring for continual career progression.
