TEACHER OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Maternity Cover 12 Months Fixed Term)

The School wishes to appoint a Maternity Cover Teacher of Physical Education to assist in the delivery of sport from 20th April 2020. 

It is envisaged that the successful candidate would have appropriate experience and skills to help deliver a varied Summer programme that includes Tennis, Athletics and Cricket. In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to teach core PE, games and extra-curricular activities. 

In the Autumn term, the main sports we offer are Lacrosse, Hockey and Netball, experience in coaching of these sports would be essential.

Moreton Hall is renowned for the quality and breadth of its national and international sporting achievements.

The school, which currently has nearly 500 pupils (girls 4 - 18 years, boys 4 - 11 years), is situated midway between Shrewsbury and Chester with excellent road and rail links to the Midlands and the North of England.

The School wishes to appoint a teacher of female Physical Education for April 2020 as a maternity cover.  

 A dynamic and talented Physical Education teacher is required for this position and the successful candidate would be expected to play a full part in the extra curricular life of the PE Department and the School’s games programme, which would include weekends.  An ability to contribute to the Summer Term programme of Tennis, Athletics and cricket is essential and longer term, experience in coaching Lacrosse, hockey and/or netball would be a distinct advantage.  

In addition to the requirements of the role outlined above, the main duties of a general teacher at Moreton Hall  are as below. 

Whilst not an exhaustive list the principal responsibilities are:

To teach high quality PE and Games lessons. 

To plan lessons which are sufficiently differentiated to engage all pupils. 

To record pupils’ attendance and progress in a suitable format. 

To report regularly and professionally to the parents and guardians of each pupil. 

To attend departmental and staff meetings and to liaise with the Head of Department and pastoral staff on pupils’ progress and other teaching and learning matters. 

To be involved in the evaluation and development of Schemes of Work. 

To take a full and active part in the Activities/Games programme. 

To be a form tutor, as part of the well-established House system, and to take on pastoral duties as directed by the Head of Senior School.

Moreton Hall School PE Department 

 

The PE Department is strong with an impressive track record of pupil success and high grades in public examinations.  There are currently five full time members of staff and one part time teacher in the Department supported by one graduate assistant.  

 

The post is likely to suit a person with energy, ambition and flair who is willing to take on departmental as well as full school extra-curricular activities.  The successful candidate must be ICT literate.  

 

Applicants are likely to be teachers with appropriate experience and training, but we would also consider NQTs or graduates. The ability to contribute significantly to the wide-ranging extra-curricular programme in the Department and the School will be a consideration in the appointment.

The salary for this post will depend upon the qualifications and experience of the candidate and will be discussed at interview. Located in the town of Oswestry, Shropshire, Moreton Hall is an all-through school with a Sixth Form for pupils between the ages of 3 and 18. The school was founded in 1913 in an Elizabethan manor house. Boys are accepted up to Year 8.
