TEACHER OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Required from January

Temporary (maternity cover) two terms

MPS incorporating Inner London Allowance

Roll 1800 (Oversubscribed)

Excellent opportunity for an inspirational teacher, in a successful, well ordered, and inclusive 3-19 all through school. We are at the heart of an ethnically diverse community in London East, an area undergoing significant regeneration and building affordable homes. We have just celebrated a highly successful OFSTED and record breaking public examination results in 2018 with many pupils achieving top grades at both GCSE and A level.

We foster a collaborative culture where talented individuals are empowered to produce their best work in brand new purpose built accommodation.

The school is located less than 10 minutes’ walk from Barking tube and mainline station (25 minutes from Liverpool Street station) and is easily accessible by road.

We are seeking a well-qualified and ambitious professional who is motivated to make a difference to the life chances of young people. The post would suit a team player who is committed to the happiness, well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school.

We have the highest expectations of everyone and can offer

• Highly aspirational pupils who are eager to learn

• A highly supportive school in which teaching and learning is the key priority, and staff are provided with the time and coaching needed to be successful.

At Eastbury, we have a very committed and well-resourced Physical Education department, which has expanded significantly over the last year. Physical Education is taught through all 3 key stages and is a popular examination option at key stage 4 and 5. The department consists of inspiring and supportive colleagues who strive for excellence through engaging and thought provoking lessons. At both GCSE and A-level, our teachers prioritise supporting pupils to make the best possible progress using a variety of teaching and learning strategies.

At Eastbury, all students in KS3 and KS4 have two hours timetabled physical education a week, where they participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities throughout the year. Students learn about and develop skills, techniques and tactics, while also taking on roles and responsibilities within lessons such as coaching, officiating and evaluating performance.

Our GCSE course follows the AQA specification, which requires students to study Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Movement Analysis, Physical Training, Sports Psychology, Socio-cultural influences, Health, Fitness and Well-bring and Practical Performance. GCSE results this summer were excellent, exceeding expected targets, with a high percentage of students surpassing their expected grades. PE and Sport have always been a popular subject in the Sixth Form.

We currently offer A-level Physical Education, following the OCR Specification We anticipate that our numbers will increase even further due to the opportunity to study the course at GCSE. Students will study Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Skill Acquisition, Sports Psychology, Sport and Society and Contemporary Issues in Physical Activity and Sport. The success of this department is evident through many students choosing to continue the subject at university.

In addition, we have an extensive extra-curricular offer with both competitive sports teams and recreational sports clubs and physical activities, which run before and after school and during break and lunch times. Our teams and performers have been successful across a range of sports on a local, regional, national and international level.

The PE department is a very cohesive department with outstanding and experienced teachers, excellent schemes of work and fully established assessments. There is a strong sense of teamwork that is passed on to the students and contributes to their views and positive experiences whilst studying PE.

About Eastbury Community School

Eastbury Community School is an exciting, challenging and rewarding place to work. Our 3-19 All through school is a large, well-ordered and diverse community of 2200 pupil. We are proud of our achievements and excellent reputation, both locally and nationally. The school strives to be at the forefront of educational improvement and is a Leading Edge school. Our success is founded on the traditional values of academic excellence, self-discipline, responsibility and respect for others.

Eastbury was judged overall as good, with an outstanding sixth form by OFSTED in July 2018.  We believe we have continued to improve and are on the cusp of becoming outstanding. Our exceptional trajectory of improvement and outstanding progress support this judgment.

We feel we are both the ideal place to begin your career in education, or gain the valuable experience needed to develop it further. Our highly praised NQT program is highly valued and our early career teachers stay with us for a few years.  Many of our staff gain promotions both internally and externally, which reflects the high expectations we have of all, and the excellent standard of support that is offered to all staff across all areas. Eastbury Community School always seek to employ talented and inspirational individuals who will ensure the highest standards of academic achievement and pastoral care for all our pupils. In return, we provide a rich experience and the professional development needed for further promotions.

Eastbury Community School is part of a successful 6th form partnership arrangement with four other local secondary schools.  This partnership will potentially cater for the educational needs of over 1000 pupils studying a diverse range of academic and vocational courses. We have had increasing numbers of pupils achieving top grades in our sixth form; in 2019 we had 24% A*/A and an average grade of B-.  Although we cannot publish 2020 grades, we improved on this and our 3-year ALPS measure is a 3, which places us in the top 25% for value added. This was also reflected in the destinations of our pupils, with multiple pupils gaining places at Oxbridge, plus Imperial College London, the LSE and KPMG apprenticeships. Overall, 64% of our pupils went on to study at Russell Group or top third universities. Just like skills and character traits, our pupils have a range of abilities. What we consistently do here, is push them to achieve no matter what their starting point is.

Many families choose Eastbury because they feel that each child in our care is offered an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum and can be assured of support and encouragement to attain their full potential. We see our school as a family: caring, supportive and well-ordered, with a commitment to everyone achieving their best. We challenge our pupils to achieve ambitious goals and to never settle for second best.

Our aim is to create a genuine learning community in which all pupils are challenged and stimulated, cared for and supported.
