OVERVIEW OF THE JOB 

The post holder will develop, deliver, and support academic programmes in line with agreed standards and policies. To teach Psychology at A-Level and Foundation Programme level. To carry Personal Tutor duties within the School as required. To plan, prepare and teach strong lessons for the classroom which enthuse and inspire students, and promote enjoyment of learning. To effectively use a variety of teaching styles, having regard to the individual learning needs of students. To select and sequence appropriate materials, resources and approaches according to the course type and learners. To meet challenging, but realistic educational targets that demonstrate excellence in student academic progress. To participate and engage with the school’s extra and co-curricular provision, enriching student’s learning experience and development of skills outside the classroom. 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

 

As a subject teacher:

 • To assess, track and provide relevant and timely formative and summative feedback on achievement, progress and developmental needs to students, academic and other managers/colleagues, including student records and integrate this into weekly and termly planning. Further, to provide intervention strategies for underachieving students and communicate this to relevant personnel.

•   To write, set and mark half termly assessments with collaboration with other team members, in line with syllabus/specification guidance and content coverage).

•   To write, set and mark weekly homework assignments.

• To write half-termly reports on students with clear formative comments and targets as to how to improve work, by deadlines given, and provide regular estimated grades and feedback on tests as required

• To develop materials and resources, implement, support and/or lead in the production and improvement of Schemes of Work as appropriate, and undertake other academic project work as directed. 

• To regularly update and use the School’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to support students’ learning outside the classroom. 

•   To contribute to extra and co curricular provision through leading and supporting of various activities. Examples of past events held across the curriculum include Olympiad competitions, Bank of England competition, Theatre trips, Cross School competitions, Revision conferences, Public lectures, Economics World Cup Challenge, Football, Criminology Club, Dragon's Den Club, Bloomberg Trading Club, Poetry Club, Wellbeing Club etc.

 

As a personal tutor:

 • To induct students appropriately, to provide academic advice, counselling, educational guidance, and tutorial support to students, including individual learning plans as directed. 

• To supervise students’ attendance and behaviour and follow up as appropriate, in accordance with the School’s Behaviour and Attendance policies.  

• To promote intercultural understanding and be flexible to specific cultural needs of students.

GUILDHOUSE SCHOOL, LONDON

Located in Bloomsbury Square in the heart of London, Guildhouse School counts among its neighbours some of the world’s greatest centres of education, art, fashion, and finance.

The school is a co-educational independent day and boarding school catering mainly for international students aged 15+. We specialise in preparing students for university exams, including A Levels and the University Foundation Programme (UFP). We are the only school in Europe to host a Bloomberg Business Lab, complete with Bloomberg Terminals. There are approximately two hundred and thirty students on roll, class size average is nine across all programmes, and students take part in an extensive range of extra and co-curricular activities including leadership awards and national/international competitions.

The school was founded in 2011 under the name of “CATS College London”, joining CATS Cambridge and CATS Canterbury (founded in 1962) and joined by CATS Academy Boston in the US (in 2012). In October 2022 “CATS College London” rebranded to Guildhouse to better represent it's unique geography and educational offering as part of the CGS Global Schools Group.
