Job overview

Chiswick School is an 11 - 19 mixed academy of approx. 1400 pupils including a large, successful 6th Form.  At the beginning of this year (February 2020) OFSTED determined:  "This is a good school" with outstanding features.

From September 2022 we are looking to recruit an experienced Teacher of Religion and Philosophy at KS3, delivering AQA GCSE RS and supporting possible A Level teaching of AQA Philosophy and/or Sociology. There is a TLR available for a department or whole school responsibility.

The RP department at Chiswick is small but lively. We take an academically focused and challenging approach to the subject which prepares students to study GCSE Religious Studies and A Level Philosophy while also giving them the opportunity to explore life's big questions in a calm, friendly and respectful environment. We offer various extra-curricular activities including a student-run Philosophy club and a mindfulness group.

At KS3 we introduce students to a broad range of topics. We cover each of the world's major religions in discrete units during years 7 and 8 followed by the comparative study of religions based around themes in year 9. Alongside these topics we introduce students to a range of fundamental philosophical principles. Our philosophy curriculum includes the study of Ancient Greek philosophy in year 7, philosophy of religion and religious ethics in year 8 and an introduction to the metaphysics of mind in year 9.

At KS4 students can opt to study AQA GCSE RS. We offer any combination of religions from Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, with groups choosing which two religions they would like to study for the religions paper. For the themes paper we teach all three religions. Alongside the GCSE option we offer the AQA short course for our core curriculum. For the short course students study Christianity and Islam.

At KS5 we offer AQA Philosophy. This is a popular A Level at Chiswick with many students going on to study philosophy or degrees with philosophy at university. A significant number of our philosophers at A Level apply to Oxbridge and we have a good success rate. Every year we host an internal A Level Philosophy Revision Conference for our students.

Closing Date: Please complete and submit our online application form by 25th May 2022. Interviews will be held throughout the application process so if you are interested please apply asap.

Chiswick School is a mixed 11-18 school that is truly comprehensive in its nature.

Our vision is that we do whatever it takes to ensure every student achieves their full potential. Over the last year we have made rapid progress in our classrooms and we are delighted that Ofsted has recognised how far we have come. Over the next four years we are aiming to become one of the finest schools in London providing students with exceptional opportunities in and out of the classroom.

Chiswick School is full of adults who care deeply about children and we pride ourselves on the positive relationships we build with students. We are a family which includes parents and carers, teachers, other school staff and the community; with the child placed firmly at the centre of all that we do and the decisions that we take.

Our teaching and support colleagues are our most valuable resource and we work hard to provide a balanced and enjoyable working environment.  A new Wellbeing Strategy is being implemented to enhance what we are already doing to support our staff.

"Staff praise leaders for the improvements that have been made. They said that leaders take their workload and well-being seriously. Staff morale is high. They are committed to playing their part in the continued improvement of the school."  - Ofsted, January 2020
