Job overview

We wish to appoint a Teacher of RE, who will join a department consistently rated as ‘outstanding’ by the diocese. The ability to teach a second subject would be welcome. Applications are invited from individuals of all faiths and none, who will support the catholic ethos of our school.  The John Fisher School has a national reputation for the quality of its provision for religious education. This post represents an outstanding opening for a newly qualified teacher or an experienced teacher looking for potential career development within the department in a school where students enjoy learning and achieve excellent outcomes.

Our repeatedly oversubscribed School achieved 80% 5 A*-C (4+) including Maths and English in 2017 and the Sixth Form received an ‘outstanding’ ALP’s judgement in 2016.  In our previous Ofsted Section 5 inspection both ‘Behaviour & Safety’ and our Sixth Form were judged ‘outstanding’.

In our most recent monitoring visit (January 2018) Ofsted stated that the ‘…steady and reassuring approach ensures the strong commitment of staff…’ and ‘the teachers are welcoming and friendly, and it creates an atmosphere where you belong…’

In RE we achieve consistently outstanding results - in June 2017 18% 7+ 68 4+. The department teaches The Way, The Truth, The Life at KS3, the EDUQAS Route B Catholic Christianity course at KS4, and at KS5 the OCR Philosophy and Ethics A-Level course.  Religious Education is popular amongst all students and their experiences in a faith school are further enhanced through established retreat opportunities. Students are engaged and involved in the faith life of the school and taking leadership roles in both the CAFOD youth leadership scheme and the Catholic Youth Executive.

The department has three dedicated teaching rooms, with office space.  Each teaching room is fully equipped with interactive white boards and audiovisual equipment and the department owns a wealth of resources to support learning.

Please contact Janet Rigby, Office Manager on jrigby3@suttonmail.org to arrange a visit or an informal discussion with the Headteacher.
