Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a thriving co-educational independent day school on the outskirts of Bristol. We are looking for a dynamic and highly capable Teacher of Science to join a successful and dynamic science department.

We are proud of our high academic standards and our innovative approach to the development of teaching and learning across the school but we also value the range of opportunities we provide for our pupils outside the classroom too.  The Science Faculty has strong links with local universities and delivers an exciting programme of co-curricular activities. Uptake of STEM subjects in our Sixth Form is very high and a great many of our students go on to study STEM subjects at University or take up high-quality apprenticeships.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, a great communicator and will be able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of KS3 and GCSE Science. We would welcome applicants with an A Level specialism in any of the Science Faculty’s subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Psychology.

This post would suit either an NQT or a more experienced teacher seeking an opportunity for professional development.  We would consider applications from those looking for a full-time or part-time role (minimum of 60% FTE). Colston’s puts a strong emphasis on the career and professional development of its staff and encourages the sharing of excellent practice through its learning communities and wider investment in CPD activities.

Colston’s occupies a stunning thirty acre campus and has all of its facilities on-site. We are easily accessible from the motorway network and provide an outstanding holistic education for students aged from 11 to 18. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and other benefits including free school lunches during term time, free on-site parking and use of the school’s gym facilities. The school also offers a discount on school fees for staff at the school.

A willingness to contribute to the extracurricular life of this holistic school will be advantageous. In their supporting statements, applicants are requested to make clear their co-curricular interests or experience that they could offer the school.

Closing date for applications: 17th January 2019

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 23rd January 2019.

Colston’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

About Collegiate School, Bristol

Welcome to Collegiate.

We are a thriving and happy co-educational day school for pupils aged 3 to 18, located just north of Bristol. At Collegiate we have approximately 800 pupils, with our Preparatory School accommodating pupils from Nursery to Year 6, and the Senior School accommodating students from Year 7 up to our Sixth Form. In 2019 Collegiate was rated as ‘Excellent in all areas’ in our ISI report.

Our holistic approach to education not only enables our students to excel academically, but we ensure activities beyond the classroom play an equally important part in their time here at Collegiate. Our beautiful 30-acre grounds and excellent facilities across all faculties allow pupils to explore a huge range of sporting, creative and extra-curricular activities, with a work hard, play hard philosophy bringing out the best in our students.

Pastoral care is core to Collegiate life and underpins all that we do. Across the whole school our supportive house system provides the structure through which we monitor and support the development, well-being and happiness of all of our young people.

With a shining sporting legacy, sport too plays a huge part in the life of our pupils. We encourage everyone to get involved because physical education is important for a healthy mind and allows each pupil to develop self-esteem and a strong team ethic. We value and nurture sporting excellence, arranging a full fixture list for pupils of all talents to represent the school.

Our staff are proud to work at Collegiate and are well supported to ensure our academic standards and innovative approach to the development of teaching and learning across the school are maintained. We offer a competitive salary, with other benefits including free lunches during term time; free on-site parking; use of the school’s gym facilities; a defined contribution pension scheme and staff remission on school fees (in accordance with the staff remission policy).
