Job overview

Is science more than just a subject to you? If you live and breathe all things science and want to inspire young people to do the same then we would love to hear from you.

Our vision is to develop world class students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible and go on to lead happy and successful lives. We would love to work with you if you are hungry to grow and learn and have a keen interest in becoming the best teacher you can be, by building effective relationships and instilling in students the same love of science that you yourself will have.

The Misbourne is an aspirational and friendly place to work where every student and member of staff is a valued member of our community. You will be working alongside a strong and aspirational curriculum leader and a supportive team including three experienced science technicians.

We will work closely with you to support your career goals and offer high-calibre CPD and opportunities for future promotion within your subject and the wider school. We are looking for one thing in return: a relentless pursuit of excellence in everything you do.

Although we are looking for someone with the ability to teach all three sciences to GCSE, each team member has their particular area(s) of specialism. Frequent departmental CPD utilises this expertise to help ensure the whole team deliver the same high quality across the curriculum. The ability to teach A-Level Chemistry is desirable but not essential as we will be keen to support you in developing your A-Level teaching whatever your specialism or career stage.

We can offer you:

• A dedicated specialist lab for all your lessons.

• Practical and administrative support from a team of experienced technicians.

• An evidence informed approach to school improvement, only implementing what we feel will make the biggest difference to the lives and outcomes of our young people, being mindful of staff workload and well-being.

• Well-embedded electronic resources to support teaching and reduce workload.

• A genuine commitment to support your career development through our CPD programme, described by Ofsted as 'exemplary’.

• Your own laptop in addition to a desktop PC in your lab.

This post would suit an NQT or a more experienced teacher on either a full time or part time basis. If this role interests you, please visit the ‘Joining Us’ area on our website: www.themisbourne.co.uk or contact our HR Officer, Natalie Green at hr@themisbourne.co.uk for further information and an application form. Letters of application should be addressed to the Headteacher, Jo Meloni, on no more than two side of A4 equivalent, no smaller than font size 11.

The closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 26th April 2021. Interviews will take place Thursday 29th April 2021, although we reserve our right to interview early for exceptional candidates. Please email your completed application to: HR@themisbourne.co.uk

The Misbourne is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and follow safer recruitment practices. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

As Headteacher it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the trustees, staff and students to welcome you to The Misbourne. Thank you for showing an interest in working with us.

This is a good school where every student really does matter and where our team of professional and passionate staff works hard to instil the belief in each of them that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

We believe that there are three things that are important to working in a school. Firstly, the students. We are fortunate to have polite and respectful students with well-supported families who want to work hard and do well but for some, lack the self-belief to really achieve their full potential. Secondly, a supportive staff body and investment in continued professional development. Staff are happy to work here and are very rightly proud of their school. They are supported by a comprehensive training programme that takes into account individual roles as well as career progression and aspirations. We are linked to two teaching schools and take a lead role in delivering training sessions for trainees from across Buckinghamshire.

Thirdly, our facilities. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities across the curriculum including a new building for the Sixth Form, English department and school café; extensive playing fields; three new IT suites and brand-new multi-million pound sports centre including dance space and fitness suite (free to use for staff). We have recently transitioned to Google in preparation for Year 7 commencing blended learning using chromebooks from September 2023.We believe that there are no barriers to learning that cannot be overcome. We strive for educational excellence in every lesson, every day, through a climate of high expectations, which are actively promoted in all aspects of school life. The Misbourne provides a learning environment that allows all students to flourish through mutual respect, kindness and a strong desire to achieve.

Through inspiring teaching; excellent pastoral care and strong partnerships with families and the wider community, our students leave us with the qualifications, skills and values needed to lead happy and successful lives and we are looking for similarly dedicated and inspirational colleagues to join us.

This is such an exciting time for the school and we welcome applications from prospective employees who share our vision, values and aspirations for students.

If you would like to visit us and see for yourself, I would encourage you to make arrangements for a tour via the school office admin@themisbourne.co.uk. Staff and students are exceptionally proud of our school and we would love to show you around.

Mr Rich Peters (LL.B) Hons
