Job overview

For September 2021 or January 2022, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Science, specialising in Biology, to join our high performing department at Avanti Secondary School. The position will be suitable for both a newly qualified and a more experienced teacher. The successful applicant will be able to deliver all three Sciences up to KS4 and Biology at KS5.

Avanti Secondary School is one of the top performing schools in the country based on GCSE outcomes and are looking for the applicant to contribute to the further success of our department. In 2020 78%, 81% and 72% of students achieved grades 9-7 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics respectively. In Combined Science 87% of students achieved grades 9-4. This, along with the quality of teaching and learning within our department, is why our Sixth Form has seen rapid growth. We look to recruit a teacher that can play an active role in the academic and extra-curricular life of a lively, positive and high achieving school and continue to maintain these high standards by reinforcing our expectations to achieve academic excellence. It would also be desirable if the applicant would be willing to assist the Head of Biology in running field trips and the Biology Olympiad.

However, all staff members at Avanti House School will not be required to present themselves from any specific faith background and there will be no preference given in this regard. This is an exciting time to join the school as it continues its journey to outstanding.

We are looking for an innovative and strategic thinker with vision and ideas to lead by example and act as a strong role model to students. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and energetic team who strive to ensure that all students enjoy learning and surpass expectations.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

References will be taken up for all short-listed candidates prior to interview.

Avanti House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and requires all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates are required to have a DBS check.

About Avanti House Secondary School

Avanti House is a very happy school where the behaviour and attitudes to learning, by all students are exceptional. Students have an established and meaningful ‘voice’ through the prefect system and school council. It is through working in close partnership with parents and students that the school has grown exponentially since its opening.

When Ofsted inspectors visited the school in July 2014, they reported:

“The behaviour of pupils is outstanding. They are, without exception, respectful and polite. New pupils are immediately included, and those with additional needs or who experience difficulty settling in are sensitively inducted until they feel safe.”

At Avanti House Secondary School we deliver a rounded education to nurture confident and creative young people who will thrive in adult life. We put an equal emphasis on the highest academic achievement alongside the development of character and spiritual insight.

We offer students a diverse range of opportunities both in and out of the classroom. For example, we offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award and various trips including residential visits to Barcelona, Isle of Wight, Wales, Belgium, Rome and France.

Avanti House Secondary School is part of the growing family of Avanti schools. Avanti schools are Hindu-designated faith schools. However, staff and students at Avanti House Schools do not originate from any specific faith background; applications are welcome from practitioners of any faith and from those of none. They will, however, be expected to be in full sympathy with the unique ethos and vision of the School.
