Job overview

Outwood Grange Academies Trust seeks applications from outstanding applicants with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role.

Do you want to work in a GOOD and rapidly improving academy where “leaders… are committed fully to improving the life chances of their pupils”? Do you want to work within a team who are “tearing down barriers to learning successfully, at a remarkable and breath-taking speed”? (Ofsted 2017)

This is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiastic, driven professionals to join our Family of Schools. An excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject are essential. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’. Applications are invited from both newly qualified and experienced professionals.

This is a temporary post to cover a maternity leave of absence. Please note, this appointment could be made full-time, permanent to the region for the right candidate.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools offers:

  • The opportunity to work and progress across the Family of Schools.
  • The chance to apply for leadership roles in the Deeps working across the whole Academy.
  • A full and detailed programme of support and development for NQTs.
  • A further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through the Outwood Institute of Education (formerly the teaching school).
  • A programme of bespoke Science CPD sessions that are run by the Science directors throughout the term.

We believe that all teaching and support staff posts within our Family of Schools are key posts in terms of supporting student success and achievement across a broad range of subjects and experiences. As such, we are keen to recruit dedicated and ambitious professionals who will add value to our Academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom.

If you share our vision, join our family.

Interim Chief Executive Officer - Lee Wilson

Associate Executive Principal: Gemma Trattles

We are an 11-16 academy based in the large, north-east town of Middlesbrough.

The academy received a good judgement in their 2017 Ofsted inspection. However in July 2022 the academy was given a notice to improve judgement. Leadership has significantly changed and a comprehensive improvement plan has been implemented to secure sustainable long term change for the academy. It is an exciting time to join the academy’s committed team and join them on this important improvement journey.

Taking a holistic approach to education, valuing vocational, practical, creative, and academic qualities equally, we believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally. We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
