Manchester Mesivta is excited to offer the role of Teacher of Science within our rapidly growing Jewish boy’s school. The role will involve teaching of Science and Physics from KS3 and KS4 with the ability to teach A-level Physics. We are looking for someone who is passionate about their subject and determined in their mission to impart knowledge, skills and understanding to all of our young people, whilst exciting and engaging them in their learning. 

By joining Manchester Mesivta you will be working within a centre that boasts small class sizes, exceptional results and performance, and a positive work/life balance. As our school runs religious learning alongside the national curriculum, the successful candidate will find themselves with a start of 11.00am and a finish of 5.55pm. The day is broken into booster and support lessons in the morning and full class teaching after lunch starting at 1.00pm. 

You should be a committed classroom practitioner with a passion for learning and teaching. You must be able to establish excellent relationships with pupils and colleagues, and work well within a team.

The Role

To deliver outstanding teaching and learning in all aspects of your subject and therefore help pupils achieve excellent academic outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• To be a model of excellent practice, maintaining a clear focus on outstanding delivery to pupils.

• To assist in embedding consistent pedagogy and practice for teaching in your department by contributing to CPD sessions and sharing resources.

• To contribute in the development of consistently high quality MTPs and LTPs, for both Key Stages 3 and 4.

• To provide a nurturing classroom and school environment which enables pupils to develop as learners.

Duties as a classroom teacher

1. Register classes taught at the commencement of the lesson.

2. Plan and prepare course and lessons appropriate to each class.

3. To teach and assess KS3 Science and at least one KS4 Science subject as part of the AQA course. An ability to teach the new AQA specifications is desirable.

4. To evaluate Schemes of Work and implement new Schemes of Work to ensure students of all abilities are making the required progress.

5. Regularly set, mark and record homework for all pupils, according to the school homework schedule.

6. Maintain classroom discipline and a safe working environment for pupils, observing all LA and school guidelines with regard to the welfare, health and safety of pupils.

7. Implement process of assessment, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainments of pupils taught.

8. To work with other members of the Department in formulating and implementing agreed policies as part of the department and whole school development plan.

9. Mark examination papers as and when required.

10. To contact and consult with the exam boards where necessary.

11. To ensure that the Departmental Health and Safety Policy is fully understood and implemented.

12. Participate in arrangements for his/her further training and professional development as a teacher where appropriate.

13. Participate in arrangements for cover for absent colleagues in emergencies, and if absent yourself, provide work for classes affected.

14. Co-operate and participate with the Head of Department in departmental administration, activities and management.

15. Maintain a stimulating working environment through display material.

14. Carry out a share of supervisory duties in accordance with published rosters.

At a time of rapid educational and administrative change, job descriptions cannot be prescriptive. It may be that some alteration is necessary as circumstances dictate and as new needs arise.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:-

1. Delivery and assessment of the specification requirements for Science in Key Stages 3, 4.

2. Developing and maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.

3. Assessment, Recording and Records of Achievement within the framework of the subject areas.

4. Keeping in touch with new developments and knowledge with a view to proposing new innovations.

5. Management of teaching areas.

6. The display of work to create a vibrant and challenging environment.

7. Attending relevant meetings.

8. To provide assistance to the Head of Department as appropriate.
