Job overview

Teacher of Science (Physics or Chemistry preference) TMR/UPR as appropriate  (Full time or part time)

Required from Easter 2018

NQTs are welcome to apply

Phoenix is a multi-cultural 11-19 secondary school, serving 1750 students in the north of West Bromwich close to the border with Walsall in the West Midlands. Opened in September 2010, as a result of the merger of two local schools, Phoenix has quickly established itself as one of the highest performing schools in the area.

An Ofsted visit in March 2015 recognised Phoenix as a ‘Good’ school, with a ‘no limits’ culture, driven by the uncompromising belief that all students will be successful as they move onto the next stage of their lives. As a school constantly focussed on improvement, we are now seeking a colleague to join our team who has the drive, skills and attributes to ensure we become outstanding within the next two years.

Due to expansion as pupil numbers grow, we are seeking to appoint a highly talented and innovative, qualified teacher of Science to join our friendly and supportive Science department. You will have a confident understanding of the curriculum and the ability to inspire excellent learning. This position will suit a NQT or an experienced teacher looking for a new opportunity. We are particularly interested in candidates with a Chemistry or Physics specialism.

In September we moved into our brand new, purpose built school. The students and staff at Phoenix face an exciting future. If you would like to be part of a school that is committed to becoming the very best, and if you can inspire and motivate our students, you could be the person for this role.

Phoenix is a multi-cultural 11-19 secondary school, serving 1,890 students in the north of West Bromwich close to the border with Walsall in the West Midlands. Opened in September 2010, as a result of the merger of two local schools, Phoenix has established itself as one of the highest performing schools in the area, an accolade achieved through commitment to continually improving the quality of teaching and learning and the provision of an exciting and dynamic learning experience for students.

Over recent years examination results have continued to improve which is reflected in our 2024 value added figure of +0.17 published by the DFE. This is expected to be further enhanced in 2025 with an EBacc cohort now approaching 40%. Phoenix is a school that aspires to turn every child’s dream into reality; believes that there is no limit to what can be achieved and succeeds through passion, commitment and determination.

Phoenix was one of only a few schools nationally to benefit from the government’s priority schools building programme, and our state-of-the-art facilities which opened in 2017 are second to none.  But we have not stopped there, with additional MUGAs, a climbing wall, low-level assault course and new teaching walls in every classroom with new interactive screens already added.  By September 2025, we aim to have a new classroom block with gym facilities, as well as a 3G soccer pitch.

We invest heavily in the professional development of our staff and have a calendar of high-quality activities that support the career progression of individuals and the priorities of the school.  As a school, we have signed up to the Staff Well-being Charter and invested in a benefits and welfare package for our staff which includes a car salary sacrifice scheme.  We also have many family friendly policies within the school.

Phoenix really is a great place to work, but don’t take my word for it, please take the opportunity to visit us and see for yourself.  I would be proud and delighted to show you around.
