Job overview

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Science to join a strong school with ambitions for improving our Ofsted rating from 'Good' to 'Outstanding'.  This post will be ideal for a Teacher of Science ready for their first teaching post (NQTs are fully supported) or a current teacher interested in a new opportunity.  They will join a strong faculty with a supportive head of department.

The School

We are an oversubscribed, expanding school, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted with consistently positive outcomes at GCSE.  We are seeking to employ an inspiring and enthusiastic Teacher of Science.  The successful candidate will be able to deliver sciences at key stages 3 and 4, Combined Science and, we anticipate, may offer A-level specialism in Physics, Chemistry or Biology. We especially welcome applications from Physics and Chemistry disciplines, although applications from Biology specialists will also, of course, be welcomed.

The successful candidate will join a teaching team of 8 staff.  Oldbury Wells has established A-level teaching in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Psychology and teaches both Triple Science and Combined Sciences at GCSE.

Oldbury Wells is a flourishing academy, the founding school of the Bridgnorth Area Schools’ Trust.  At present our Trust comprises a family of six schools all within South Shropshire.  Our Trust is committed to supporting local education and enjoys strong partnership arrangements with all local primary schools.  We are a comprehensive school with students across the whole ability range.  We are located just 20 minutes from the West Midlands conurbation where we enjoy a small town location in Bridgnorth within easy reach of the Birmingham and Telford areas.

We have a very good track record in terms of examination results with excellent Progress 8, Attainment 8 and VA scores.  We are in a position of strength as a school, with our students successful across the range of groups and across the full range of subjects.  Oldbury Wells School also has an established and flourishing Sixth Form, recently relaunched and expanded as Bridgnorth Sixth Form.

Oldbury Wells School is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people and therefore expects all staff to share this commitment.  All appointments are subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

Ofsted report

“Teachers carefully plan varied activities that take account of students’ earlier learning and individual needs. Students are often given opportunities to decide their own starting point or level of challenge. Challenging extension tasks are used well to require more able students to think more deeply. Teachers carefully target questions, give students thinking time before requiring an answer and support them in articulating more complex answers."
