Teacher of Science

Church Stretton SchoolShropshire

We are a very successful, oversubscribed, vibrant and happy 11-16 secondary school, where relationships are strong, serving the market town of Church Stretton and the immediate area.  Being a smaller rural school, we get to know our students and their families well.  We are part of TrustEd Schools’ Partnership, a local Multi Academy Trust, currently consisting of two secondary schools and four primary schools which work closely together with significant benefits for our students and staff.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our strong and highly successful Science and Computing faculty. The successful candidate will join a welcoming teaching team of 5 staff, with a supportive Head of Department. The faculty has a well-established ethos of working collaboratively to get the absolute best out of every student and to ensure every team member can be the absolute best teacher they can be. We are seeking to employ an inspiring and enthusiastic Teacher of Science. The successful candidate will be able to deliver all sciences at key stage 3, although lessons are usually delivered by a subject specialist.  We anticipate a specialism in either Physics or Biology at key stage 4, but can accommodate Computer Science or Chemistry too.

Science is an extremely popular subject within the school, offering Triple Science and Combined Science at GCSE. Our outcomes at GCSE in both Combined and Triple Science are consistently among the best in Shropshire.

The department benefits from excellent facilities with 5 well-resourced labs, along with a dedicated Computer Science lab. All teaching rooms have the latest generation Clevertouch screens.

This post will be ideal for a current teacher interested in a new opportunity or a Teacher of Science ready for their first teaching post (ECTs are fully supported).

The appointment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including references, medical clearance, and an enhanced DBS Disclosure under the “Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974”. Further details regarding this check are available by visiting www.dbs.gov.uk.  The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. “The ability to communicate at ease with stakeholders and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.”
