Job overview

Graveney is an extremely popular and successful 11-19 school situated in Tooting SW17 on a pleasant site with excellent facilities. We have a commitment to providing the best opportunities to all students and to developing professional skills and career opportunities for staff.

We require a Teacher of Science to join our large and highly successful department.

Science is an extremely successful and popular subject at Graveney. Results at Key Stage 4 (99% A*-C) are well above the national average with the majority of students entered for Separate Science GCSE. In addition, there are over 350 students studying one or more Sciences at Key Stage 5.

Unlike many other schools, at Graveney, Science teachers will only teach within their subject specialism from Year 9 upwards – this ensures that our pupils are constantly exposed to subject specific experts. The department employs a range of dynamic teaching styles and is committed to innovative curriculum development. You will be expected to teach across the full range of age and ability, up to and including A2.

This appointment would be suitable for an NQT or an experienced, qualified teacher.

Successful NQT applicants will be enrolled onto our enhanced NQT programme, designed to focus on subject-specific pedagogy and delivered by our experienced staff. It offers many additional benefits over and above a ‘normal’ NQT year, including:

  • further reduced teaching load;
  • enhanced CPD programme specifically targeted at teaching within your subject specialism;
  • support from large department of other subject specialist teachers;
  • a subject-based, teaching-based research project.

There is a team of leading practitioners which impacts upon teaching and learning through professional training and research.
