Job overview

Brownhills is a small, traditional school with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and in our June 2017 Ofsted Report, we were judged to be a GOOD school with a wide range of OUTSTANDING FEATURES. We are pleased to announce that we will become an Ormiston Academy with effect from 1st April 2020.

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated, able professional who is committed to helping all of our pupils to aspire and succeed whatever their starting point.

This post would suit a strong and resilient practitioner with a passion for the subject to inspire our young people, while raising attainment and student expectations. You will support outstanding practice in Science, which is a strong and aspirational team that offers a rich curriculum including Biology, Chemistry and Physics separately. Results are improving year on year. The department enjoys fantastic facilities; having the benefit of 6 well-equipped science laboratories together with generous technician support.

If you are looking for the counsel and support of an experienced and forward-thinking team, and strong collegiality within the department, Brownhills delivers on every level.

Applications are welcome from ambitious professionals with the strength and resilience required to succeed in the teaching profession. The ability to contribute to Health & Social Care would be an advantage but this is not essential. We would welcome applications from qualified PE staff who would like to convert to teaching science; suitable training and support would be given.

For further information, contact Diane Lindsay, Human Resources, 01543 452886 ext 256.

Application forms are available via the school website www.browhills.walsall.sch.uk and completed forms should  be returned directly to the Headteacher via st-keenan-h@brownhills.walsall.sch.uk.

Please state clearly which position you wish to apply for.

Closing date: 17th April 2020.

We reserve the right to appoint or withdraw this vacancy at any time.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects its entire staff to share this commitment.

Brownhills School is a small, friendly community based on the border of Walsall and Staffordshire.  The School benefits from attractive grounds in a rural setting close to major transport routes (A5, M6, A38, M42 & M6 toll).

Pupil intake is truly comprehensive with pupils choosing to travel from areas further afield in order to benefit from the high quality of teaching and care, guidance and support that the School provides.

Academic standards have risen rapidly in the past few years, demonstrating the ambition of the school to ensure that all pupils achieve highly.  Alongside this, the School has continued to provide a dynamic Creative Arts programme.  The School choir is the largest in the borough and its musical and drama productions are excellent.  Sport and health activities are a key feature of a thriving extra curricular programme.

The School is run along department lines with each department line managed by a member of the SLT.  The size of the School allows for extensive cross curricular staff development which benefits all staff.  The curriculum reflects an emphasis on the core subjects, however it remains broad and balanced.

When recruiting staff, we see all teachers deliver a lesson before proceeding to interview as it is the quality of our teachers that makes the greatest difference to the lives of our young people.

We are interested in staff who are passionate about teaching as a career and want to make an impact here.  Subject specialism is important, however we like to employ staff who will motivate and inspire our pupils and add to the enrichment opportunities for them.
