Job overview

St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School & Sixth Form College - a Voluntary Academy

NOR: 1598 - including 188 in sixth form

We are seeking an outstanding and passionate Science Teacher (preferably a Physics or Chemistry specialist) to join our successful team in January 2019.

With over 20 members of staff (teaching across all three scientific disciplines in Key Stages 3-5), we are excited to work with a highly motivated and enthusiastic applicant, who can further enhance our wide-ranging Science curriculum. You will also play a key role in helping to further develop an existing culture for engaging practical science, both in lessons and through extracurricular enrichment.

Science at St. Wilfrid’s is an exciting and engaging subject. We have an established and highly successful Science sixth form portfolio, covering a range of both A-Levels and BTEC Nationals. Within the Science faculty and across the school, staff and students form an enthusiastic and happy community who work together in order to secure high standards of attainment. As a highly motivated collective, in Science we strive for excellence in everything we do, aiming to provide consistently outstanding teaching and learning experiences for our students, through the use of innovative and forward-thinking approaches to scientific pedagogy.

We welcome applications from experienced teachers or NQTs (for whom we have a very effective induction and mentoring program). It is essential that applicants have very strong subject knowledge and are capable of delivering outstanding classroom practice to Key stages 3, 4 and 5. Our teachers must be able to work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues and have high expectations of all learners.

St Wilfrid’s is a successful 11-18 school with a strong Catholic ethos, set in a caring and inclusive community, where the celebration of our student’s talents and passions are paramount to everything we do. In 2018 the A-Level average point score per entry was 30.83 and 66% of students achieved grade 4 in both English and Maths.

We are ideally situated in a semi-rural location, close to the thriving cities of Leeds and York, and just a short drive from some of the country’s most beautiful locations. Many of our pupils choose to travel from all over Yorkshire to join our caring community.

Further details and an application form are available from: www.st-wilfrids.bkcat.co.uk or from Jenny Doherty, the Headteacher’s PA.

Closing date: Midday on Friday 5th October 2018.

This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

About St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School & Sixth Form College, A Voluntary Academy

St. Wilfrid’s Catholic High School and Sixth Form College, with its distinctive Catholic identity, seeks to ensure the development of all students’ spiritual, moral and academic potential, based on its commitment to Christ and His teachings.

As a community, the school is committed to the common good, which is achieved through the fostering of a co-operative and caring ethos, both with St Wilfrid’s, parishes, family and the wider community.

Such an approach is based on the Christian principle of personal dignity and worth where each person’s rights and responsibilities are recognised and respected, and their individual talents nurtured.

These talents include the search for academic excellence within a secure learning environment, where the needs and potential of all pupils are addressed and where achievement, both individual and collective, is celebrated.

We are incredibly proud of our community, students, supportive parents, staff and governors.  All of us work together to make St Wilfrid’s a safe and enjoyable place to learn.

At St Wilfrid’s we have high standards at the heart of all we do. We encourage our students to achieve the best they can across every area of school. A rich and broad curriculum provides high-quality education and a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Our aim is for our students to be confident, caring, resilient young adults with a desire to learn and achieve the best they can, in all they do.

We welcome students of any faith or of none, but our faith has a positive influence on our approach. We are building a community of young adults who recognise and appreciate the value of each other’s company while growing in knowledge and faith. Students feel a sense of responsibility and care for others and are willing to give something of themselves for the happiness and the improvement of the broader community.
