Job overview

Set in beautiful grounds and surrounding countryside, and within easy reach of the historic cathedral city of Salisbury, the New Forest, and the spectacular Jurassic coast, Avon Valley College is ideally located in the south of Wiltshire.

Avon Valley College is the one secondary school within our multi-academy trust. It is much valued by its mixed civilian-military community. As part of the rebasing of troops from Germany, all local schools will see a rise in population between now and 2020. Owing to the doubling in size from 600 to 1150-1200, Wiltshire Council is in the process of a phased building programme to bring 18 new purpose-built classrooms to Avon Valley College. The Trust intends that phased programme to continue in order to refresh and renew the entire estate.

The school has undergone a significant period of change in the last year and standards are now rapidly climbing. Results this year were significantly better than in 2017 across the board. However, 2018-19 is a critical year in our journey, and we are looking for strong leadership to capitalise on the momentum we have built.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic teacher to join our team. We offer excellent professional development opportunities and career acceleration for those who are aspiring to middle leadership.

The successful applicant will have a track record for outstanding outcomes and will possess the necessary skills to consistently deliver on high quality lessons at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Rachel Titchener on 01980 652467 to arrange a visit to the school.

Respect. Determination. Excellence.

Avon Valley Academy is a thriving, co-educational school, educating young people between the ages of 11 and 16 years. Located in Durrington, our school has a strong reputation for being at the heart of the community and has built strong relationships with the two local army bases, at Larkhill and Bulford.

As a school, we aim for every lesson and every day to be exceptional. To achieve this, we ensure that all staff have access to a wide variety of training and are given time to foster strong relationships with our students. Our staff take pride in how well they know our students, and are always looking to go the extra mile to help them achieve their dreams.

With our strong pastoral care and high standards for behaviour, our school encourages students to have high self-worth and love coming to school. This has created a vibrant school community in which each individual can thrive.

In May 2022, we joined Acorn Education Trust, which has provided exciting opportunities to improve local education and draw on collective experience. We work closely with other schools within the Trust and the central team to help us continue to grow from strength to strength.

Our school has a wide range of excellent facilities, including:

  • Sports fields, netball courts, tennis courts, astro turf pitches, a gym and a sports hall;
  • Dance and drama studios;
  • Interactive whiteboards and projectors in classrooms;
  • Computer suites in most teaching areas;
  • Large hall equipped with full AV system and a stage for our productions, events and concerts;
  • Library with a wide range of reading materials;
  • Subject area suites for science, design technology and art;
  • Enhanced Provision via our Link and Learning and Welfare Hub, as well as a Behaviour Hub;
  • New buildings;
  • Large grounds.
