The governors of this popular Catholic school are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and highly motivated Teachers of Science, specifically a Physicist and a Chemist, who have the highest expectations of themselves and their children. St Thomas More is a good school (Ofsted 2016) committed to high standards of growth and professional development. St Thomas More Catholic School educates nearly 1500 students between the ages of 11 and 19 and is located on a 25 acre site in the heart of the Black Country. Our community ethos is based on love of God and love of neighbour, we respect and help each other to be the very best we can. Visitors to our school always remark on how well our students behave and how polite they are. Our teachers work passionately to do their very best for our students academically and pastorally, we are always seeking to further improve. Exams are important but we also seek to provide enrichment opportunities including trips, arts, sporting activities within a framework of continuous spiritual growth. With excellent transport links for the M5, M6 and M54 our school boasts superb facilities across an attractive campus in Bilston which opened in 2003. We have a dedicated Chapel, state of the art learning resource centre and purpose built classrooms, a 250-seat theatre and assembly hall, a large sports hall with rock-climbing walls and highly equipped gym, enhanced ICT suites and provision across the school and a sixth form study centre. We also benefit from sharing our site with ‘Goals’ football pitches and use their facilities throughout the day.

We are a friendly, welcoming staff committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We benefit from an Employee Assistance Programme and also provide ample free parking across our site and use of the school gym. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Candidates should:

  • Demonstrate consistently good or outstanding classroom practice.
  • Be a passionate advocate of the subject, who contributes effectively to the department and whole school improvement plans.
  • Able to teach across the full age and ability range at age 11-19.
  • An ability or desire to teach A Level.
  • Be able to drive forward academic outcomes for SEN students throughout the school.
  • Be eager to become a supportive Form Tutor.
  • Be able and willing to make a full contribution to the

Catholic life of the school.

  • Have high expectations of self and others.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be flexible and a good team player.
  • Have leadership experience in Science.
  • A drive to extend your leadership experience.
