Job overview

For January 2020 we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Technology Teacher to join our successful Technology Department.  This is an appointment for maternity cover initially to the 31st August 2020 and we would consider a full or part-time basis.

Applicants will be highly motivated and have a passion to ensure that our learners achieve the very best that they can at all times.  The core purpose of the role will be to uphold the fundamental standards of pride, respect and achievement with all learners but also ensure that all students receive the highest standard of bespoke support.

Here at Burnside College, we put teaching and learning first and are committed to providing a high quality and inclusive learning experience for all.  Furthermore, we are committed to the development of staff and you will be joining a supportive school with an excellent environment in which to continue your professional development.

Burnside’s Technology department consists of 3 full-time and 1 part-time teaching staff and three technology technicians.  Within this department there are 8 fully functioning technology classrooms each equipped with subject specific equipment, a desktop computer and an interactive whiteboard; providing students with an ideal practical and interactive learning environment in which they can flourish.  The Technology department strives to deliver a diverse curriculum to support student progress and attainment across all key stages.

The Curriculum

At Key Stage 3 it is expected that technology teachers are flexible in the subject delivery as this would support an ever changing curriculum.  Teaching groups within all Key Stages are mixed ability. We are very proud of our uptake at GCSE and we currently offer students the following AQA courses at Key Stage 4: GCSE Design & Technology, GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition and GCSE Art Textiles.  We offer AQA Product Design at KS5.

The Teaching Post

The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and delivery of lessons across key stages 3 and 4.  They will be required to assess the work of their students and provide constructive, individual feedback on a weekly basis.

The Technology department places a strong emphasis on the development of effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies. Through ongoing weekly CPD, the Technology team are focussed upon ensuring that differentiation is used to provide a suitable level of challenge for all students and that effective Assessment for Learning is used to support student progress. There is also a teaching philosophy amongst staff that Technology lessons should be focussed on developing student curiosities and building upon these to provide a contextualised learning experience for all students. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, highly motivated and a creative practitioner who is committed to supporting the achievement and progress of all students.

Your letter of application

In addition to the application form please provide a covering letter, of no more than two sides of A4, in which you outline your suitability for the post as well as your philosophy on teaching.  Completed applications should be returned to Mrs J Carruthers, Burnside College, St. Peter’s Road, Wallsend, NE28 7LQ or electronically to j.carruthers@burnsidecollege.org.uk
