Job overview

Teacher of Technology with Subject Leader responsibilities for 1 year

Starting January 2019 – Permanent post

MPS / UPS + TLR 2c

York High is a mixed 11–16 school serving a genuinely comprehensive intake.  We have an absolute commitment to inclusion and making a difference to the life chances of all our students.  Our new building and committed team of staff have enabled us to transform the expectations of our young people and their community in the last 10 years.  It is also reflected in the number of families applying for places at our school.  You will be working in a department that prides itself on the support provided for all colleagues.

The school prides itself on its honesty, and wishes potential applicants to be aware that the school is currently in Special Measures.  However, with a new dynamic Leadership team, and with the support of our students and community, there is a real commitment to implementing change through high quality teaching and professional development.  We therefore wish to hear from candidates who will be committed to our journey and excited by this challenge.

The successful candidate will work alongside the current subject Leader until April 2019 who will then be leaving for maternity leave.   We are seeking to appoint a colleague who will share our belief and our vision for the future which includes the expectation of at least good teaching and learning and an environment where colleagues work to the highest standards of professionalism. As a Subject Leader you will work closely with your team to raise standards of student attainment and achievement and ensure the quality of teaching is of a high standard.

We are seeking to appoint a candidate who can teach KS4 Resistant Materials and KS4 Food.

The successful candidate will have

• A good degree in the curricular area

• The ability to inspire, motivate and challenge young people.

• Commitment to fulfilling wider professional responsibilities

• Strong subject knowledge

We welcome and encourage visits to school, where you will have the opportunity to meet some of our staff, students and Headteacher to learn a little more about our ethos, vision and journey.
