Job overview

We are looking for an efficient, enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join us as a teacher of Welsh.

Caldicot School is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive serving the local and wider community. The school has over 1400 students and is situated between Chepstow and Newport, with easy access via the M4 corridor and on the northern side of the Severn Estuary.

The school is at an exciting stage in its history. In September 2017, the school moved to a new £36m purpose-built site and now boasts some of the finest facilities in the country. Over the last two and a half years, there has been a significant number of changes at the school which has supported rapid improvements in provision and outcomes. This includes a new staffing structure, with clear career progression routes for staff, as well as a refined curriculum, designed to strengthen knowledge, understanding and skills. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking school. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and the school's commitment to a values-driven education helps shape students to become positive role models in our society.

About the role

Welsh is a core subject at the school and is popular amongst students. Standards within Welsh as a second language is very strong. Across all key stages, performance at all levels is very high, consistently achieving positive value added (against both FFT estimates and ALPS). Welsh is joined by modern languages to create a distinct faculty within the school. The quality of teaching within the team is consistently strong. Therefore, the successful applicant would be joining a very strong team of highly effective teachers, with a broad range of experiences. All new members of staff receive a very strong programme of induction, which includes an allocated member of staff to support with the operational elements of joining a new school, as well as a tailored support package to meet individual needs.

The Welsh department is in a very strong position and a new head of department is joining us in September. The role would suit an NQT or someone with strong experience of teaching Welsh and looking for a fresh challenge.

Closing date for applications: 28th June 2022 at 12 noon.

*equivalent to maximum point on pay scale (£27,491 - £42,322), with a further £3,000 recruitment allowance available for an excellent teacher. This would be available for 3 school years, payable over a 12-month period and subject to successful performance reviews.
