The opportunity
The Hutchins School, established in 1846, is an Anglican Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 day and boarding school in Hobart, Tasmania. We are an Anglican school whose supportive learning community works together to nurture character of boys.
We are seeking applications from Science and Mathematics teachers for a full time ongoing and fixed term position that will commence at the beginning of Term 3 or 4, 2021.
You will have Science and Mathematics experience and have qualifications relevant to the teaching of boys. The position will be based in the Middle and Senior Schools with pastoral care responsibilities.
To be successful in this role you will:
Be a qualified teacher, registered to teach or be eligible to teach, within the State of Tasmania.
Have the ability to deliver an engaging and highly effective teaching and learning program within an educational setting.
Have the ability to develop and implement appropriate teaching strategies to facilitate student learning.
Have the ability to take responsibility for the effective pastoral care of students.
Have the ability to work both independently and co-operatively with other staff members.
Be familiar with relevant curriculum documentation, e.g. ACARA, Office of the Tasmanian Assessment Standards and Certification (TASC) and the Schools Registration Board of Tasmania (SRB).
Have a proven ability to relate to boys of all ages and understand the value of single-gender education.

It is a strict requirement of our school that all staff obtain and maintain a Tasmania’s Department of Justice Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) evidence of which must be provided prior to commencement.

The Hutchins School is an independent, Anglican day and boarding school for boys from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 in Sandy Bay, Tasmania.
The school was founded in 1846 as a memorial to The Venerable William Hutchins, first Archdeacon of the colony of Van Diemen’s Land.

Facilities
The Hutchins School Library consists of three mini-school information resource centres – the Early Learning Centre Library, the Stephens Library for Junior and Middle Schools and the Senior School's Nettlefold Library.
The Centre for Excellence provides learning support and extension programs.
In Years 11 and 12, the school has co-operating school arrangements with St Michael’s Collegiate and Fahan School, so students are able to choose from over 100 potential elective courses.
Curriculum
The school has an Early Learning Centre for Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 and the curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework with a Reggio Emilia approach where relevant and the Australian Curriculum for Prep (Foundation) to Year 2. The class teacher takes all of the core subject areas including, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Art. Specialist teachers are provided for Music, French, Physical Education, Library and RAVE (Religious and Values Education).
In senior school students pick elective subject options as they move through Years 9 and 10. The co-curricular program in Junior and Senior school includes Music, Performing Arts, Debating, Sports and Duke of Edinburgh
