Position Information 

Ettalong Public School is located on the Brisbane Water peninsula of the NSW Central Coast. The school has 534 students enrolled, including 10% from Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander backgrounds and 12% from language backgrounds other than English. Ettalong Public School has a long history of providing support in an inclusive setting for students with disability. We have 4 support classes consisting of 3 multi-categorical classes and 1 IO/IS class.  These classes form an integral component of the school setting and staff are committed towards maximising the potential of all students, providing a safe and supportive learning environment that is strongly focused on the engagement and wellbeing of students, staff and the community. The school’s core values of Respect, Responsibility and Ready to Learn underpin the quality education and diverse opportunities that the school offers. Ettalong Public School has a strong P&C and works collaboratively with Koorana; the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) and the Brisbane Water Learning Community of local primary and high schools, to develop the continuum of learning from K to 12.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism and mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities and behavioural difficulties.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating a capacity to be a proactive and collaborative team member, liaising with students, parents/carers, colleagues and the wider community to improve educational outcomes of students with learning and support needs.

Demonstrate an ability to design Individualised Learning Plans to meet the needs of students, excellence in behaviour management and evidence-based, quality teaching practices, which enhance student engagement.

Demonstrate initiative to implement and contribute to whole school extracurricular programs, including dance and a commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education policy, to improve student engagement and strengthen positive relationships across the school community.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
