Position Information 

Illawarra Sports High is a partially selective designated specialist sports high school (876 enrolments including 138 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and five autism support classes). The school draws the majority of students from the southern Wollongong suburbs, but enrols an increasing number of students from the larger Illawarra area who access specialist sports programs.

Current specialist sport programs are for football, rugby league, surfing, netball, basketball, touch, rugby union and hockey, with cricket in 2022. The school offers a broadly based comprehensive curriculum and has a strong record of achievements in academic, cultural and sporting pursuits. The school receives Resource Allocation Model Equity funding for Aboriginal Education, Socio-economic background, English Language Proficiency and Low Level Adjustment for Disability students.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism spectrum disorders and a range of dual diagnoses.

Demonstrated ability to design and successfully implement effective and engaging teaching and learning programs, across multiple key learning areas, to students in support settings.

Demonstrated capacity to develop a positive and well-managed learning environment for students with diverse needs, including the use of positive behaviour support.

Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and enthusiastically with parents, teaching staff, school executive, inter-agencies and the wider community.

Demonstrated capacity to contribute to an inclusive and positive school culture including involvement toward faculty and whole school activities, plans and targets.

  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
