Position Information 

Manning Gardens Public School is located in the Manning Valley on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. Our school has a current student enrolment of 182. This enrolment figure can be broken down as follows: 134 students in our mainstream K-6 department, 32 students in our support unit K-6 department and 16 children in our early childhood programs (10 children in our preschool and six children in our early intervention class). 60% of students identify as Aboriginal. The school Family Occupation Educational Index (FOEI) is 215, the highest FOEI of any educational setting in our school network.

Our support unit department is made up of five classes; two classes designated for students with moderate and/or severe intellectual disabilities, one class for students with a primary disability of Autism, one multi-categorical class for students with an Autism or mental health diagnosis and one early intervention class for students with a diagnosed disability aged 3-4 years (preschool). We also have a departmental preschool which consists of one preschool room for up to 20 children. Our preschool specialises in providing a quality early childhood curriculum for four year old children. 

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching special education (K-6) including students with mild to severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism and sensory needs, emotional disturbance, trauma, and behaviour difficulties.

Demonstrated ability to build and contribute to a positive school culture with a capacity to make a broader contribution to whole school activities, including but not limited to music, visual arts and sport.

Highly developed interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork, effective communication and building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, external personnel and the wider community for the achievement of student outcomes.

Ability to create a culturally responsive classroom environment that motivates and engages Aboriginal students in their learning by implementing the Aboriginal Education Policy, perspectives and specific programs while demonstrating an understanding and sensitivity to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, out of home care and students from diverse social economic backgrounds.

Demonstrated capacity to calmly manage highly challenging behaviours with an emphasis on strong classroom management strategies while developing dynamic and responsive Individualised Education Plans, Health Care Plans and Behaviour Support Plans within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
