Position Information 

Tirriwirri School for Specific Purposes (Years K-12) is a new school that opened in 2021 with an anticipated enrolment of 55 students. The school will operate with seven classes in the first stage of development with additional learning spaces possible to support future growth. The school is located between Karabar High School and Queanbeyan South Public School. Tirriwirri School is the only SSP located in the Queanbeyan and surrounding areas. It is located on the border of NSW and the ACT, near Canberra. The school is located in a highly desirable location, 10kms from Canberra International Airport and is only a short drive to the Snowy Mountains or to the South Coast. The classroom teacher position will commence from Term 1 2022, week 1. Tirriwirri will prepare students with special needs (moderate or severe intellectual disability and complex needs) to meet the challenges of the future. A strong focus is on developing attitudes of willing participation and co-operation and providing comprehensive quality education. Students will be supported to move forward in their independence and reach their full potential. Positive partnerships between families and the wider community are highly valued and play a vital role in enriching student outcomes. In collaboration with parents and carers, Tirriwirri School aims to foster close relationships with NDIS service providers to ensure students are well supported in learning and have a seamless transition between home, school and community life.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience in teaching students with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism as well as complex behavioural difficulties and mental health needs.

Demonstrated ability to design and teach quality, differentiated educational programs and develop Personalised Learning Support Plans for students with a wide range of individual learning needs, developing a culture of high expectations for all students.

Proven commitment and capacity to work as a part of a collaborative team within the context of your class to improve student outcomes and as a part of the whole school on delivering the Strategic Directions of the School Improvement plan.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers, support agencies and the wider community.

 

  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work, including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The successful candidate for this position will be required to confirm full vaccination status prior to the Department of Education finalising the appointment of the candidate and entry on duty.
