Location: Bridge of Don Academy

Job Purpose:

To support enhanced provision within a designated hub in Bridge of Don Academy.

To deliver quality education to assigned pupils and contribute to the professional, corporate life of the school in relation to pupils, staff and appropriate external bodies within the agreements of the SNCT.

Requirements

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

 

Appropriate teaching qualification.

Full GTC (Scotland) registration in the appropriate subject/sector, or be eligible for such registration.

PVG scheme membership.

Responsibilities

The post holder is expected to demonstrate:

Ability to teach the full curriculum in the relevant subject or sector, and to develop the curriculum.

Ability to manage and organise classes through planning and preparing for teaching and learning. 

Ability to assess, record and report on the work of pupils’ progress to inform a range of teaching and learning approaches.

Ability to prepare pupils for examinations and qualifications and where required, assist with their administration.

Ability to contribute towards good order and the wider needs of the school.

Ability to contribute to the school and council planning and improvement processes.

Ability to maintain and develop knowledge and skills and contribute to the professional development of colleagues including probationary and student teachers.

Bridge of Don Academy is a six-year secondary school located in a suburb of Aberdeen, Scotland. A small school with fewer than 800 pupils, it operates on a shared campus with a primary school and a church. 

The school has an extensive range of facilities, such as its own swimming pool and refurbished student kitchens. Bridge of Don Academy does not have its own playing fields, but it has regular access to the facilities of the nearby Alex Collie Sports Centre.

Values and vision 

The ethos of Bridge of Don Academy is best described by its motto, “Be honest, Be respectful, Be caring, Be your best”. Students are supported to grow into young adults who not only excel academically, but are also fully equipped with the necessary life skills and emotional intelligence to properly apply themselves in the real world. The secondary school operates an extended school day on Mondays and Tuesdays.

“The inspection team found the following strengths in the school’s work: Young people’s achievements in leadership and wide-ranging sports, cultural and enterprise activities which are very well supported by staff across the school. Staff engagement in professional learning which is leading to improvements in teaching and learning across the school. Partnerships with the wider community which enhance the curriculum and increase young people’s skills for learning, life and work."
