About St Augustine's School

St Augustine’s is a co-educational Catholic Primary School catering for students from Prep to Year 6. The school is located at the bottom of Mt Demi in Mossman, which is 76km north of Cairns, Queensland.

It was founded in 1934 by the Sisters of Mercy. The school embraces the Catholic traditions set out by of its founders. St Augustine currently has 190 students enrolled and is linked to the local Parish.

St Augustine has a range of modern facilities including library, hall and well-resourced learning materials for students.

Curriculum

With the ever changing demands of the world, St Augustine’s curriculum caters for this by offering a multi-faceted approach. The school utilises the Queensland Studies Authority framework, with teachers providing essential learning in subjects including: Religious Educations, Mathematics, Science, Languages, Technology and the Arts (Dance, Drama, Media and Visual Arts). In 2008, the school introduced specialist dance sessions to the Dance component of the Visual Arts curriculum. Daily fitness, performance workshops and “You Can Do It” program were also introduced.

School ethos

St Augustine’s motto of ‘Together in Faith – Learning for Life’ was inspired by its founders, the Sisters of Mercy. The school offers a learning environment that is open to all students who seek to share in their Catholic values, witnessing to a faith, in a challenging and changing world. Through a holistic approach based of love and respect, St Augustine aims to recognise the individuality of students. Ensuring they are happy, included and nurtured from a young age, to make certain the students turn into confident, whole young people.
