The SABDEN Multi Academy Trust, based across East Sussex, is an aspirational and supportive Trust, aiming to create a warm, caring, stable, supportive environment in which all staff and pupils feel safe. We are three special schools, a secure unit, a large countywide alternative provision, a vocational free school and one of five teaching schools within East Sussex. We strive to discover success through learning, self-belief and achievement.  Pupils are empowered to take responsibility through a personalised curriculum supported by secure systems.

Cuckmere House School is an 'Outstanding' school with a recently opened Autism Unit, based at Tower House. This provision provides spaces for up to sixteen pupils and is for boys in Key Stages 2 and 3 who have a diagnosis of autism, alongside Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

We are looking to recruit two Teaching Assistant 3 into our expanding team at Tower House. The main responsibility of the post will be to assist in the planning and implementation of activity/behaviour programmes for students. You will also be asked to assist in the planning and implementation of interventions to support individual needs related to students’ social, emotional, cognitive or self-regulation needs and to work directly with pupils (1-2-1 with targeted individuals and in small groups) and assisting in preparation of resources.

The ideal candidate will be empathetic in their interactions with students, and able to act as a positive role model and mentor to both students and other members of staff in the department.

Other qualities required will include being able to work collaboratively as part of a team and build good relationships with students and colleagues, both at Tower House and the wider school community at Cuckmere House.  Our young people have social, emotional and mental health needs and therefore resilience and a good sense of humour would be beneficial.

Ideally, you will have experience of working with young people who have complex needs, including autism and social, emotional and mental health needs.  A recognised Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification to Level 2/3 would also be beneficial. A willingness to develop knowledge and skills through comprehensive training opportunities is essential. While some experience of working with vulnerable young people is preferable, it is not essential and appropriate training can be provided for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be joining a Trust and school that continues to be ambitious in its drive to improve outcomes for our pupils. You will join a highly dedicated and professional staff team and be part of a supportive working and learning environment, where your professional development is highly valued.

The hours of work are Monday – Friday from 8.30am –3.30pm.  We are a friendly and supportive team, with additional benefits, such as free daily lunch.  If you have further questions or would like to visit the school prior to submitting an application, please contact the office on 01323 893319 or via email at david.donnelly@sabden.org.uk
