Gloucestershire Professional Services (GPS) is recruiting an experienced Teaching Assistant to join their specialist ‘Quayside Transition Centre’ based at Alexandra Warehouse in Gloucester. Within this role, you will support a variety of learners of which some may have anxiety, SEND needs, mental health support needs or have missed large amounts of education due to hospitalisation. 

The purpose of this role is to assist the learner’s in maximising engagement with learning activities devised by academic staff. The will include activities that have been specifically created with be individualised destination in mind and may include supporting learners undertaking vocational taster activities. In addition to this you will be required to support learners to gain greater independence and employability skills through links with employers and community based initiatives.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Be an ambassador of the college values, and to have these as standard learner expectations

• Support learners to develop the skills to enable them to live as independently as possible through a highly planned curriculum where you use every opportunity to relate to the learner’s EHCP outcomes

• Prepare teaching materials for teaching sessions

• Prepare group risk assessments for off-site activities in line with the college’s health and safety policy


Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience of working with SEND students (preferably in a special school or specialist post 16 centre) 

• Experience of working with SLD, PMLD ore pre-entry level students 

• GCSE English and mathematics (or equivalent) at grade C or above  

• Proven IT skills
