The Bethlem and Maudsley is an outstanding Hospital School.

We work with pupils aged 4 – 19 who are patients of the Bethlem and Maudsley psychiatric hospitals. The pupils come from local, regional, national areas and beyond. We support pupils’ continued learning and their successful reintegration. We complement the hospitals’ focus on recovery by seeking to minimise the future impact of admission.

You will be required to work at both the Bethlem and Maudsley sites of the school, but primarily based at the Bethlem site of the school, Beckenham, Kent in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The PICU is a new service which will provide mental health care and treatment for pupils who need a secure environment whilst they recover.  For these vulnerable pupils the aim will be to prepare them to return to education in one of the open psychiatric wards and eventually to their school or college. As TA/HLTA you will be mainly working with 13-19 year old students.

We require a TA/HLTA who:

  • has experience of providing support to individuals and groups of young people who may experience a range of challenges to their learning;
  • has achieved or is capable of rapidly gaining HLTA status.
  • Based at the Bethlem Hospital, Beckenham, but must be willing to work at the school`s other site at the Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell.
