Job overview

A helping hand from you. A head start for them.

We want all our young people to have the best chance of success in life. To make sure that’s the case, you’ll give them extra help when they’re in the classroom. The right support can really make an enormous difference. As a Teaching Assistant, you have to be understanding and committed. That’s because the young people in our schools have social, emotional, mental health and complex learning needs that call for extra dedication. Help them progress and you’ll have every opportunity to do the same with your career.

The role
As a Teaching Assistant at Chilworth House School, you’ll have a key role to play in the development of our pupils. We cater for students with special educational needs, which means they need more help than most. You’ll work with individuals, groups and classes, helping children learn and develop. Working to boost their self-esteem and encourage acceptance from others, you’ll also support the teacher by monitoring pupils’ work. If your skills are well developed, you could take on more duties, such as helping with planning meetings, working without supervision and liaising with teachers to devise complementary learning activities.

With your previous experience in a Teaching Assistant role, you’ll have up-to-date knowledge of welfare and safety practice within education. You’ll also have the ability to work to specific goals with children, and a gift for building relationships with staff and pupils alike. Emotionally resilient and able to motivate students, you’ll enjoy being part of a team but work well independently too. Please note that you may be expected to attend meetings outside normal school hours.

Your profile
As an experienced Teaching Assistant already, you should be used to life in the classroom and up to date with welfare and safeguarding practices within Education. You’ll also need to be qualified to at least NVQ level 2 (or equivalent), but what we’re really looking for is the ability to connect. We need you to build great relationships with all our young people, so you can motivate them to do well and be the best that they can be. If you’re emotionally strong and good in a team, we can offer a role with exciting prospects.  There are occasional meetings outside school hours, for which your attendance will be required.
