Job overview

We are currently looking for a Teaching Assistant in Pilning, South Gloucestershire where our Aurora Hedgeway school provides flexible specialist education and residential care for children and young people aged 7-19 with communication and associated difficulties. 

Our students may be on the autistic spectrum, have Asperger’s Syndrome or other difficulties that impact their emotional health and wellbeing and create barriers to learning. 

Key Responsibilities: 

As our Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting students not only with their education but also with their emotional needs and behavioural challenges. In school, you will carry out a range of duties, supporting all elements of learning from basic life skills through to academic achievement and personal development. 

You will demonstrate you are creative, patient and adaptive as every child we support is unique and they will require an individualised approach to ensure that each of them has the opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe learning environment.

Key to your role will be your ability to establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with our pupils in order for them to enjoy learning during their time at the School.

You will also be expected to promote and encourage independence and personal development in our pupils whilst maintaining high expectations of behaviour at all times. 

Ultimately we are looking for our TA’s to contribute to providing high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences for our pupils and to promote their cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development and spiritual well-being through the whole curriculum and extra-curricular activities.

This role is suitable for all experience levels and we will work with you to develop your skills and confidence. Experience:

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

Level 3 Diploma or equivalent, or willingness to work towards achieving this (funded by us). 

SSTLS 01 (desirable) 

3 or more GCSEs (including Mathematics and English) at Grade C or above or other equivalent

A robust, positive and creative approach in meeting the needs of children and young adults. 

Good interpersonal, communication and team working skills. 

High level of resilience and patience
