Teaching Assistant

19.5 hours per week, term time + 5 Days
With a proud tradition of serving the community of Stockton-on-Tees, Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth is a medium-sized school with a big heart. We are part of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust, one of the highest performing Trusts in the country.
Our vision is to put students first in order to raise standards and transform lives. To make this happen, we innovate constantly, including a vertical curriculum centering on exceeding age-related expectations in Years 7 and 8 and a three-year Key Stage 4, aimed at personalising learning. Fast-track opportunities and workshops provide accelerated routes for students, where appropriate. In other cases, additional teaching time and resources are provided to ensure students leave with a solid foundation of good and better grades.
With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic talent equally and focus on building transferable skills that result in real-world success. We are also an ‘enhanced mainstream school’ providing an outstanding education for young people with physical and/or sensory needs.
In particular, we aim to instill British Values: a passion for democratic participation, individual liberty, mutual respect, and difference and diversity, backed by a commitment to taking responsibility for one’s own conduct and progress. By empowering students to take ownership of their learning, we can create tomorrow’s leaders as well as responsible, caring and engaging citizens. Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth seeks applications from professional individuals for this key role.
As an experienced Teaching Assistant, you will be extremely well organised, IT literate and have excellent communication skills both written and verbal. You will work as part of a team within the academy to promote the learning and welfare of students by providing practical and learning support to students, including those with special needs. It is essential that you have the ability to respect and maintain confidentially at all times; establish a supportive relationship with the children concerned and deal with immediate problems or emergencies according to the Academy’s policies and procedures.
The academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, and we intend that every member of staff receives CPD appropriate to the role.
In line with Government guidance, we are currently limiting access to our academy. In some instances, we may use remote processes in place of academy-based interviews and therefore we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are available via skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage. If you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position, please contact Joanne Buttery at j.buttery@bishopsgarth.outwood.com
